    18: Connection between Selling yarn & ELAN?
    27: IP for trivial sum, in CALIPH?
    DOWN:

  2. 4A Old City = UR
    8A Its not just A but MA = Master of Arts
    18A The connection eludes me
    27A IP = 1 Paisa
    6D REAR ENDER by which I suppose the compiler means being rammed in the rear in a road accident
    To care = REAR
    Last = END
    Monarch = ER
    14D Bachelor = BA
    fifty = L
    pound = L
    explanation for ERINA eludes me also
    About tearing out your hair I can understand, but on the other hand when you get the answers the feeling is mosr enthralling

  3. Just did a google search, ERIN comes from Erin Go Bragh meaning Ireland Forever see the link http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Erin_go_bragh

  4. So 14D will be BA{L}{L}{ERIN}A
    Bachelor = BA
    fifty = L
    pounds = L
    forever = ERIN
    a = A

  8. Hello,

    Not sure if 18A got cleared up or not. If not, the explanation: take alternate letters from "sElL yArN". "regularly" is an indicator for this type of clue.

    14D: Erin Go Bragh means Ireland Forever, agreed. But ERIN = Ireland and not Forever! Also, "pounds" implies more than one L, since "fifty" already gives one L then the clue has another unreconciled problem - the other word should have been "pound" for the cryptic reading to be correct.
