  1. In the link you posted for Cochin, if you went to the disambiguation page there is a Cochin Chicken. Maybe this is what it means. I don't know how you figured out Cochin.I was not getting anywhere near it

  3. Maybe your recent trip to Guruvayur has helped.

The Cochin clue gives me a sense of deja vu. Maybe this or similar clue has figured before

  4. In a hurry, I read the very first clue (2 A) as 'The woman is back with the problem in the morning'. Hint ! Hint !

29 Across - I had put it down as Cochin as a wild guess because of the seaport clue. Never knew about the Cochin chicken. The learning process never seems to stop.

1 Down - Accountants hand over a fruit? AB = hand? I too can't dig this.

5 Down - 'Driving fast' is in noun sense, whereas 'rash' is an adjective.

  5. Richard,
AB stands for Able Bodied Seaman or a hand on a ship.

  6. Possible Anno for PIN in tenpin. Pi for Pious or good and n for noon

  7. The usage of pi for good is corroborated on Wikipedia's page on Crossword Abbreviations

  11. Well I filled out 1 Down as {PA}{PAY}{A} as "hand over" could mean PAY and the article a follows it.
I still don't know how PA could mean accountants though.
