  1. 'aye' (more common) and 'ay' are English dialectical or archaic words that mean 'ever' or 'for ever'.
It is also used in poetry, maybe ballads.

  2. 19 ACROSS:
    FO = Field Officer(synonym)/ commissioned military officer(hypernym)

  3. FO for field officer is not an accepted synonym in the Army

  4. Shuchi was right yesterday about NAVET, but I have no idea how ATSIGHT can mean 'It's okay to be hale and hearty!' which was the clue

  5. Some interesting clues.

Since Indian names rarely appear, APSARA and DHARMA took a little more time.

10 - Nymph designs the spa for an artist (6) -

    Is it {A}{PSA*}{RA} or {APS*}{A}{RA}?

  6. The word primarily appearing in the clue dictates taking an O only from officers as it has for the rest of the words, as such the clue itself is faulty

  7. Agreed. A word beginning with 'f' appears to have been left out.

  8. Re yesterday's clue 'It's okay to be hale and hearty!':

Besides the Col's point, I remember reading a rule on the usage of OK. It is used as OK only, but only when it is used as a verb, it will be 'okay'. e.g., 'Government Okays Power Project', 'Foreign Tour Plan Okayed'. Any opinions?

Agree that the clue itself is faulty, but maybe NJ intended "primarily officers" to imply "First Officers" as in the Navy (?) and hence "FO"?
My first post as I am learning from the masters posting here. Thank you for an excellent blog.

  10. My apologies on the previous post .. First Officers is possibly an aviation / air force term rather than Navy.

  11. I can't find any word 'atsight'.Unless it is at sight, though it is not indicated as two words. In any case I can't find any connection

  12. Liked the Tweeter clue.
The ones that continue to needle me are
=Cross out the cheque initially before the engineers in England (6) CANCEL
Is ANSEL a engineering firm or community in England?
    OR does AN= before

= Short trip in quick succession (5) - WHIRL
Why quick succession? Was it intended as a DD?

  13. @Veer,
Primarily has been used to indicate usage of the first letter
