I think a TOUR is a big news from a musical band's perspective (Every NRI is talking about AR Rahman's ongoing world tour)

8 Hardy heroine upset when outside the capital (6) ASSETS Anno eludes me

    A{SSET<-}S

Hardy heroine : TESS (Tess of the D Ubervilles)
    upset : Reversal indicator
    when : AS
    outside : C/C indicator
    capital : Required defn

  2. Thanks Ganesh,

I got ASSETS at the dot of 8:30 but you beat me to it, so late comers will not see my question mark in the main post.

About TOUR and big music news I don't think the connection gels.

  4. Neyartha's vocab in this puzzle is way too scholarly for my enjoyment. I had to abandon solving as I wasn't connected to the net.

Not that I dislike learning new words, but it matters if these words are also interesting/usable for me, and the crossword isn't so heavily loaded with obscurity that solving becomes a trying exercise. Something like TOUT LE MONDE is nice to know, but can't say that of everything in this crossword.
