  1. Hello / Namaskar / Aadaab / Vanakkam / Namaskaram / Sat Sri Akal everybody
    (No, not a pale imitation of Big B - KBC-ishtyle !)
    Today's puzzle looked tough initially. But enjoyed completing the soon after.

    10A - Could be a typo. 'Mortar-machine carrying road-surface material' sounds more sensible.

    13A - liked the play with the word 'fast'.

    Liked 18A, 20A and 23A as well.

    8D - 'free' LANCERS and pun with 'dailies', 9D - play with 'arms' and 'kill' - nice ones.

    But the best was 16D - Eye-liners CROW'S FEET.

    Aaj to inke khilaaf bolna MANNA hai ! (Objections overruled.)

    Yet, Deepak, I fully agree with you on the point of absence of anagram indicators.

  2. 16d Crows feet was a nice one. So was 7d Plaza.
    In 10a, how does the tarmac come from tormac? Richard’s take on it sounds plausible.
    17d is 8 letters not 10
    5a Tampico had to be Googled for confirmation.

  3. 19D - Will SCATTER also fit in?

  4. @Richard,
    Scatter will fit but it will not gel with the second part of the clue 'Rower'

  5. @ Col: in 8d, Back again may signify er (re in reverse), but then we end up with a extra r from lancers to cleans, which is unexplainable (unless intention was to have free-lances and not free-lancers). The beautiful illustration of crow's feet put up by you seems to have too many digits to belong to one foot, hence more than one foot (may be even more than one crow) is involved. 3d definition is rules=dominates

  6. 19d: Rower = one who rows, row=spat, i.e. one who rows is a spatter=splash

  7. 2 - Jack, a painter, mounting a mount (6) - {A}{RA}{RAT}

    {A}{RA}{RAT<-}

  8. @ Sandhya, yes, mounting (going up) is used here for reverse just like back is used for reverse in 11a. Novel usages

  9. 3 - Contributes about a thousand and one according to rules (9) - DO{M}{I}NATES Is the definition correct?
    The def is probably only RULES. According to is only a connector?
