  4. Hi everyone:

    Some nice clues.

SILVER-TONGUED - clever use of 'doctor' as anagrInd. HALCYON, SPLENDOUR, SULPHUR, READY RECKONER, UNCALLED-FOR, BIBLIOGRAPHY etc. were nice ones.

MELANCHOLIA was the best. For some time kept wondering Is clue ke peechhe kya hai?

25D - I too took it as INK. Nothing else is allowed by definition and crossings. Anno not clear.

  5. Caught? I don't know!!! IDK ...
    :-D

  6. I solved today's crossword without even being sure about the annos. Guesses, crossings and clue words helped. Some of the clues were nice.

  7. Caught including abbreviated sign (3) INK

An annotation can be provided, though I don't rate it as a good clue for the reason that the surface reading is not that convincing.

When you 'catch [something]' you hear it.

    So -

    Caught - homophone ind
    including abbreviated - INC.
sign - v. 'to sign', INK (as in 'ink an agreement')

    Self-proclaimed C C E

  8. @ Col: @ this rate, I think my "normal" conversations are going to sound like gibberish to those around me! lol! :)

  9. I thought the abbreviation was incl.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Chambers has
    inc.
    abbrev. including; inclusive; incorporated.

  11. Chaturvasi, you got an alternate explanation for 21D?? I'd like to hear it if you do.

I don't think Neyartha would go in for an indirect anagram.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Thanks Chaturvasi... In this comprehensive list (link given below), "including" was excluded. So was wondering.

  19. Neyartha, thanks for your clarification. I was stuck 'cause I couldn't make any connection between "real" and "official."

    ReplyDelete
  20. Caught including abbreviated sign (3) INK
    I thought it was {+L}INK

    ReplyDelete
  21. Real means official in the sense of bona fide

  23. Yez Ganesh, it is the printers' turn today.

BTW, now I know who the CCE is. But who could be the Opulent Assistant regional Director of this forum who Mathu referred to at 14:43 yesterday?

    ReplyDelete
  24. Good Morning Richard Sir

It is none other than you, I just thought of creating a clue. I took opulent as rich and Asst regl Director (as ard)...

Sorry if it is too childish...but thats the way i am

I am amazed at the answers and felt a long way to go...50 out of 100 is my score today.

    Good day.

    Mathu

  25. phew. took a while, but I finally got it done(well...almost! 5 short of perfect.. hehe). As usual, I'm done about 3 hours after everyone else! Better late than never I suppose! hehe

Got a "kick" out of 11A. Reminded me of Big B in Silsila...

@Kishore: Get well soon. Donno how bad the slippage is, but I know a few ppl who recovered completely from it and went back to active, hard-core sports. An excellent book :
"The Permanent Pain Cure" by Ming Chew
Used by active sportspersons when dealt with debilitating injuries like SD..

    ReplyDelete
  26. @VJ 9:16 LOL!!! Too funny! :)

  27. Mathu 10:16

Opulent, and me? You have a sense of humour. Of late, my wife has been complaining that I am going more corpulent than opulent.

That was a cute clue you created. To be honest, it didn't strike me that it could create my name. Thanks.

Any takers for the CCC, Crossword Clue Complicator?

    ReplyDelete
  28. By the way, Mathu, I guess my name sounds better without being Knighted.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I still couldn't understand the anno for 14 Ac. Could someone help?

  30. Muthaiah

    Revolution = Defintion = WHEEL
    brought to notice by
    Mark = WEAL
on the radio = Homophone indicator

    ReplyDelete
  31. If Daisy and Wheel had come together maybe we would have cottoned onto the theme which though pointed out by Ganesh is a weak one.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Richard @ 10:41,

Only one candidate for CCC, who else but NJ !!

    ReplyDelete
  33. I strongly object. If CCC = NJ, CCC = crossword clue connoisseur.

  34. A relaxed week followed by a stormy one coming up?

    ReplyDelete
  35. 23A: "Liberal taking over from Democrat"?

Is this all right? Well Liberal and democrat are almost synonymous...

    ReplyDelete
  36. Relaxed 6 followed by a stormy 10 would be more like it!!

    ReplyDelete
  37. It's a surprise! No one has commented on today's cartoons - one each on two US presidents, the present and the former.

I liked the first one - on Obama - more.
