  1. Hi
While TIPS-Y and TURN OUT had military tones, AM A TORY takes the cake and my cod today

14 - With beer, assume I can get round the Scots man (10) - {C{ALE}{DON}IAN*} DON from ?

    don from assume

  2. 8d too had military meaning on the double

    ReplyDelete
  3. 15A TASTE is probably meant as a DD with both the meanings probably too close to each other.

    14D Assume(v) = Don

  4. Deepak, the cartoon rocks !

  5. Guys and Gals, if you have missed it, please go to the immediately previous post by clicking the older post link at the bottom right.

  6. 8D quickly takes the cake having been nicely coined-my COD.I could not get 18a,but after knowing the meaning of cotter felt it was nicely worded.

    ReplyDelete
  7. 27D The word turn has no meaning in the clue

  8. Before Deepak objects to my correlation between Tipsy and the military, may I clarify that I refer to the pudding...

  9. Has anyone seen my 747 and Deepak's post before it ?

  10. 21 - One with an inordinate love is poorly tailored (8) - IDOLATOR* How does 'E' become an 'O'

    Alternate spelling ?

  11. In fact with this spelling an idolater looks like what a procrastinator would say.

  12. Congratulations Col. on an engaging format and unwavering commitment. Also, congratulations to all the wonderful commenters that make this a forum to be read. This place is as much of a habit as it is to open The Hindu to the crossword section (figuratively for some).

  13. I just noticed the header

    HAPPY BIRTHDAY

  14. Happy birthday to THCC and congratulations to Col Deepak and to the entire Solvers'Regiment.

It should be admitted that this forum is a big hit as much because of the passionate participation as of the owner's zest and commitment.

As for commenting on 21A, I DO LATER...

  15. IDOLATER is an accepted spelling even in OED

    ReplyDelete
  16. Barring 8A, a good CW from Manna

    ReplyDelete
  17. No problem, as long as the difference between castor and caster, pastor and paster, suitor and suiter etc. is maintained.

  18. Happy Birth day

Its a nice and easy round from Manna. So far so good. My COD IS 8D.

Feeling elated to be a part of this forum for quite some time. It gives me the required energy to start the day and necessary knowledge.

Thanks Colonel and every other elite solvers for the 5 D shown.,

    Good day

  19. congratulations THCC and a special hats off to Col! Thanks for facilitating this knowledgeable forum for CW rookies and pros alike! :)

Great cartoon on Mr. SPARKS! :)

I 2nd Suresh @ 9:41. Except 8A, everything else was actually pretty good.

COD- Seems like 8D is a fav. today. However, my vote goes to AMATORY (even tho' I missed it), closely followed by 8D. :)

  20. @ Richard 9:36 - Lol! I DO LATER. :-) haha

@ Suresh 8:50 - It seems to me that it was added to make the clue a little trickier. But it works perfectly well with or without it ... no?
    {AD}A<-
A lawyer gets to her (3)... would be too obvious...

@ Kishore 8:54 - Saw it after posting my comments here. So went there and posted another one. :)

  21. Here's hoping for more such anniversaries for THCC in the future.

    Eat small amounts, it makes sense! (5) - T{A(S)TE*} T from ?

Small amounts = TS (ts, as in teaspoons)

Could someone tell me how 10D is an &lit?

  22. Hi all,
Thanks for the good wishes. The success of the blog is due to your presence and comments.

One of the visitors (he/she doesn't want to be named) to my blog has sent me a CW for today as an Anniversary special. It is based on the photo of the window sent in by Navneeth a few days ago.
I shall publish at 4 PM today (In AcrossLite format) and since it has 40 clues I shall lay down a restriction of 4 PP. Please also comment on the Quality and Degree of difficulty of the CW (feel free to rate it anyway you like, don't go by the reactions we use at present) along with your answers, I shall leave it to the setter to reveal herself/himself at an appropriate time.

  23. Really appreciate your commitment Colonel :)
    Happy Anniversary to your blog!

    Neato!

  25. Navneet, Almost thought you were referring to Nita:)

    ReplyDelete
  26. You will remember that some days ago I had provided a link here and two other places to my blog where I had posted a puzzle using the very same window.

    Only two responses were received.

Of these only one gave the complete Nina. That was Srinivasaraghava Venkatesh.

At least one solution seemed to have eluded both solvers initially.

If anyone wants to try, s/he may still do so.

The Nina will not be given by me: let the solver find out.

  27. 10d is not an &lit.
It is an anagram clue and not too neat a one in my humble opinion.

    ReplyDelete
  28. CV @ 13:09,

If your response is to Navneeth @ 11:23, I feel he he is referring to 8D and not 10D.
10D has been marked as an anagram.

  29. Further to my message on the window puz, the diagram does not seem to show completely now (it did when I checked after I posted it). ln any case, if you click on the partial image, the whole pops up.

  30. Navneeth was referring to 8D, I think.I do not make fine distinctions between CD and & Lit. How does it matter? We all enjoyed this clue in any case.

    ReplyDelete
  31. 8d is good. I would call it a CD.

  32. Happy anniversary to a very popular blog!!!

  33. Congratulations Colonel on the 2nd anniversary of THCC. Thanks for all your efforts in keeping this an interesting and entertaining place to visit.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I apologise for the slight confusion. I was indeed referring to 8D.

    Chaturvasi,
I must have missed your link to the puzzle... will take a look at it tonight.

  37. Col

Hearty felicitations on an extremely successful, educative and challenging blog. Your special efforts to encourge budding setters merit kudos.

The blog has veritably blossomed over the period with new features - appropriate illustrations and mirth provoking cartoons, voting for the CoD, and rating of the CW.

It has become an educative experience every time one visits the site.

While several of us still remain virtual(?) friends, we hope to meet up soon at one of the S&B meets.
