  1. 7 - The place of the bibliophile? (7) - UNAGING Another mix-up between clue and solution?

    I had this as READING (DD), so 6A became:

    6 - Proper for Henry given vehicle for becoming chief (4) - BUSH {BUS}{H}

    ARC*H

  2. Thanks, Bhavan. I put in Library and had the whole North East washed out.

  3. Three more days before some sense prevails in the form of Neyartha.

  4. Bhavan, I did not think that this offering was senseless.

  5. I had library too and then realised in a short while that it was wrong

  6. I thought it had to be library,but it was not fitting with crossings. What else to do but look here for guidance?
    I could not get the connection between fruit & downed. But nectarine fitted the crossings. Any clues?

  7. I also do not know how scull means handy

  8. Suresh, I said it was senseless not only because of the dodgy clues (6A,21A, 7D, 8D), but also for the mindless verbatim repetition of clues.

    Nearly one-third of the clues have appeared in previous THC (possibly Manna's own) puzzles as they appear here. And a couple of clues lead to "external" sources.

  9. I did not notice the copycat bit. But this has happened regularly and not necessarily from his own clues. Yes you have a point there.

  10. Suresh @ 10:18,

    Scull also means an 'oar' besides being a type of boat also. See the link in the main post

  11. Padmamabhan: Same clue by Manna appeared on 22nd April and Kishore gave thie explanation:
    This fruit is not downed (9) - NECTARINE [CD]

    The nectarine cultivar group of peaches have a smooth skin. It is often referred to as a "shaved peach" or "shaven peach" due to its lack of fuzz or short hairs.

    Since it does not have hairs, it is not 'downed'.

  12. Sorry for misspelling your name, Padmanabhan.

  13. No major 3 downs except for GLAMIS CASTLE.

    A well set grid, and well-enjoyed Sunday doing it.

    Will any golfer annotate the CLANGER which means a stupid mistake == Conservative C-A-G-R. A bit off my line as I hate this game of Gentlemen of leisure which has been picked up by those countries colonized by the Brits. They needed to bask in the sun due to their cold climate but do we Indians have to, in the sweltering heat of 40C and above? Even cricket is a game of five days in those days , which lets the players soak in a lot of vitamin D.

    I'd rather be indoors and do my crosswords in an AC-ed comfort.

    No offence meant to any golfer or cricket buffs.

  14. Endless repetition of clues by this setter, as in 2D!

  15. Raju @ 12:17

    Conservative = C
    golfer = LANGER (See BERNHARD LANGER)
    making a stupid mistake = {C}{LANGER}
