  10. How is Top drawer mean wicked?

    ReplyDelete
  11. Or perhaps it is in the sense of wicked meaning very good.

  12. Found it tough going today. Constant change of styles throws you off sometimes

    ReplyDelete
  13. Quite a lot of foreign words.

  14. Suresh@09.48-
'predator' is anagram fodder with 'w' of woman getting "top drawer". Lot of iffy stuff.

'On the prowl' is the anag. ind. Wicked = top-drawer, as in 'It is a wicked delivery curling in from outside the off-stump' etc.

  17. Late Latif here - Happy New Year to you all.

Kishore, ref. yesterday's post, you spotted this one all right, but he won't change his spots.

As for the other innuendo, well, no words...

    ReplyDelete
  18. Hey Richard, the spots in the innuendo were spelling something in Braille ;-)

  19. How is Top drawer mean wicked?

    An easy answer.
    'wick'ed = candle
    (kept in Top Drawer)
Top Drawer is the highest drawer of a bedroom chest of drawers, where Victorian gentry kept their most valuable items - jewellery, best clothes, scented candles, etc and has therefore come to mean 'Of the best quality' or 'of the highest social standing'.

    Anno: PREDATOR* traps Woman
    (on the prowl - AnagrInd)
    Defn: wicked TOP-DRA(W)ER*

    ReplyDelete
  20. Correction:

A search shows that WICKED in slang is used for Excellent; awesome or masterful (as in That was a wicked guitar solo)

Hence, its use to indicate TOP-DRAWER.

  21. That sense of wicked is a Boston thing, or a US thing to be general, unless I'm mistaken.

And then there's today's theme: seasons and The Season.

I must say I found the surfaces quite a smooth read: No overly long sentences and maintaining a little humour.
