  2. 9A. Maybe a CD. But I somehow thought that if the king was out of the falling financial market it would be more appropriate.

  3. "Listener's" stand = STIC(K)? Help me understand please!

    1. sounds like stick(stand) with listener as indicator

  4. I am still confounded by 12A. Does "Tense" mean training? And where does PE come from?

    1. PE means training (Physical education) Tense means stretched. Bridge partners N & S (North and South) are deleted from Tense.
Trust the rest makes sense now

  5. @Sridhar:

Training to get rid of the bridge partners stretched in the tent (5)
    Training - Physical Eudcation (PE)
    Bridge partners - (NS)
    Stretched - (TENSE)
    Tent - TEPEE

That should give you some idea. Your doubt is valid - it is "stretched" that gets rid of NS, but the clue reads as if 'Training' does. Also the replacement indication is absent...

    1. Hi Shyam,

I think Neyartha intended 'to get rid of' as the replacement indication...as in, PE to get rid of (i.e. dislodge) NS. Agreed that this isn't perfect either, the clue needs to say 'from stretched'.

The articles could do with a relook, too - the surface does not suffer much and the cryptic is improved with: 'Training to get rid of bridge partners stretched in a tent (5)'

  6. New words learned: Pimiento, Extern and recreant.

In 17across, what's the need for an auditor?

While solving Sankalak, it is entertaining and easy.
Gridman has many clues, which stimulates you and makes you happy about solving them.
With Neyartha, everything looks easy, after going through Shri.Gopinath's anno's, yet unable to complete even 25%.
