The birds are REDSTARTS. D, the note, leaves it.

  2. Enjoyed although it seemed a bit too easy.

  3. 'Mover' moved really fast until I hit a roadblock with the matador and got into a traffic jam at the NW corner! It was 11A and I felt bad not getting it ( learned the new meaning of neat)

  4. I didn't solve this crossword (I only set crosswords! LOL) but as I sweep my eyes over your post, Deepak, I find that there are some excellent clues here - nice wordplay and eminently plausible surface readings. Yes, after the Admiral it's now that the THC is coming into its own after having gone through some bad patches: no, I don't have in my mind the composer you're probably thinking of. They are others, including a woman composer. Sorry, I can't give names.

  5. Good CW! Since I could finish it! Wrote VERONICA for 1D, but did not get the Anno. Could the Maestros please explain?
Have not seen Dr. Gayathri on this blog for a while. Hope all is well. Today, samosas are in order!

  6. 17A Failure to mention old assignment (8) OMISSION {O}{MISSION} Liked the clue.
12A Telco gets one working (2,2) AT IT {AT {1}T} Despite solving the clue could not get the correct Anno. Telco being a Tata company I was trying to find out removing Á'and replacing it with I and could not get the anno.
29 Begins again; songbirds without a note (8) RESTARTS Here also despite solving, could not get anno till CVji came to resuce with REDSTARTS.
5D Came to know that "Honest Steward" can be "Short and Sweet" after solving it.
Enjoyed the CW despite being comparatively easy after Arden's run.

  7. 12A- I also did not get the anno. But after seeing your comment, I got an idea. Then only I looked at Col.'s link and got it confirmed. It is A T &T. tata's will be TELCO.

    1. TELCO was the old name for Tata motors.

    2. I know. What I wanted to convey was that it will be in capitals since it is an acronym, whereas in the clue it is given as "telco' indiacting a telephone co. That was subtle and good.

  9. Nice one from Mover. I particularly liked the use of couple & pair to indicate the first two letters.
