  1. Enjoyed the excellent CW that I was looking forward to from Buzzer, though I was found wanting in a few including the magic word.
Within/ without always catches me off guard. Glory be to Him!

  2. Filled in Chief for 1A, but had to look here for anno. What a cook.
    Liked 'Realm' as well.
4A- Caught off guard with hip for trendy. Trying to get 'in'.

  4. 'Up' is a legit anag signal.
    It means 'rebelling'.
    In rebelling, there is disturbance.

  6. Dreamboat means 'an exceptionally attractive person or thing, esp a person of the opposite sex'.

In the cartoon, the woman finds that the man is not a dreamboat, I think.

That gels with the def in the crossword.

Meanwhile, boys can have their dreamboats, I think. Ha ha - he he.

  7. 1 Often hiding cold fury is a mistake (7) CLANGER {CoLd}{ANGER}

Not clear how O and D are removed? Does often mean alternate letters and hiding for removal?

    1. Often hiding= regularly hiding= alt letter removal. Just often would do, but not in this case.

    2. Some very nice clues..

In case of 1D, not sure how precise the indicator is. Well, "often" translates to "frequently" and "often hiding" gives the sense of "frequently hiding," so far so good. But for the indicator to work on the fodder, felt the indicator should have followed the fodder, like "cold hiding frequently" or "cold frequently hiding."

  8. An intriguing puzzle! Had a smooth ride in the bottom half but a bumpy one on the top. I was running around the island to find out who Captain Cook was and miserably failed to spot him. After seeing the blog my face turned :-( (Silly of me not to get such a simple answer!) Yet happy to get 60% or so. Thank you Buzzer. :)

  10. Lots of blanks. But the quality of the puzzle was just superb. The surfaces were so smooth & even the "easier" clues were very devious.

  11. Awesome as usual. Things happened like magic. Firstly the puzzle being available online and solving it in the phone on a lovely drive to Galle.

  12. Buzzer: The purveyor of pithy posers! Many lovely clues.

However, I had similar questions about 1A and 5D, though, thanks to Chaturvasi, the second is cleared up. I thought 'often' by itself is an indicator selecting alternate letters.

Also, what's the role of 'totally' in the cryptic reading of 17D?
