  7. Col, why a Q mark for 25A: F+ICKLE. It's correct. Just that the def is only 'variable' and not 'solve for variable'

    2. What is the role of 'solve for' in the clue

  9. Got psyched by Gri gri. More so because I put down DUCKS for 3D as a DD and wondered about the role of 'reported' in the clue. Jonah in Tombola meaning no numbers scored out in the ticket.

  10. In literature I have come across 'gamb', which also means 'leg' but the leg of an animal
I think the root is Fr. jambe.
The word is used more in heraldry.

  12. A tip of the hat to Ajeesh for finding this simple - I found it anything but! It was a struggle from the word go - actually, from the word GRI-GRI. :)

I liked the surfaces and - once I got it - the wordplay in almost all the clues. Especially liked the long anagrams. Thanks to xChequer and DG!
