  3. For 29D. It seems it is only wordplay given by examples & there is no definition. Is my reading correct? Or am I missing something?

  4. Nice to see you in action Kishore- choudvin or nahin.
    It looks to be slightly different from the normal Gridman CW. Four 3 letter words (which he normally avoids) and a few proper names, more CD's to mention a few.But I am not able to see anything special. Do I miss something?

  6. Your reading is correct.
    But then each of the words before detailing is a word that is a syn. of the answer word. Syn. in the sense the answer is an example of the non-curtailed word. The answer is another syn which is detailed but the name of one such.
    Does all this make sense? Or have I tied myself up in knots?

    1. You're almost there...

      The clue is Bar? Rhyme? (3)

      Bar = BAR[d]
      Rhyme = RHYME[r]

      Both = Poe[t] ref EAP as Paddy notes above.

  7. Shall I ask? Will I be given? Or should I wait, giving everyone some time to crack it? Blind man and the elephant, but I am not 'see'ing even a part of it.

  8. Welcome back, Kishore!

    Re 10:03 I remembered the interview the late Tun Tun aka Uma Devi gave me in 1975. She had some fun at her own expanse by describing herself with many quotes which included these two gems:

    Chaudhvin ka chand ho, ya aaftab ho, jo bhi ho tum khuda ki kasam, behisaab ho...

    O tera jalwa jisne dekha woh thedha ho gaya ;-)

    1. My expanse and expense are both jokeworthy

    2. Meaning your expanse is vast and expense measly?

    3. Richard,
      Apart from enjoying Tun Tun's gems, I did a little bit of arithmetic but it does not add up. I was wondering what would have been your age at that interview 4 decades ago and your present age....

    4. I am very consistent when mentioning my age. I am always 18 years and a few hundred months old. :-)

    5. CV, the expense cannot be measly. Like Lord Emsworth the upkeep of the appurtenant premises, a.k.a. the expanse, requires a princely sum of money ...

    6. Richard@1.16-
      As long as it is not 18+ a few tens or just 18, it is fine. I was not just calculating your age, but experience in journalism.
