  5. The better the crossword, fewer the comments. Remember the days of NJ, when the comments used to be near the century mark routinely.

  6. 9A. I guessed it but want to figure out if my reasoning is correct. Class = Variety, I = Spinner, and C = cryptiC ultimately? Is that okay?

  8. 8D Sailor's a foot behind the stern (5)

Abaft is a preposition that can be substituted by 'behind the stern'. That was the intended definition.

  15. The EXPONENTS, the cruciverbalists solving the THC had a HARD TIME with the OUTRAGEOUSLY placed crossword on most of the days.

Some sort of PRESS RELEASE was required to FINISH this and get is RIGHTED.

Our setter took a STANCE with this CLASSIC RIP-UP.

Now the ARTISTES and AUNTS and about everyone else may go to the DELI and have their samosas.
