    2. I filled in 'Soda Water' too. It is a quack remedy and I have heard it mentioned quite often (probably before antacids became common)

  14. If we stretch, we can add Vibrator ( a device ) and if only it was Nippo , then we could have had a battery brand :)

  15. Believe it or not. At one time I used to have a huge crop of hair on my head and friends used to say that I could BE WILDER (Gene Wilder), if my hair was a different colour.

  19. The letters 'talent' are latent in potential .. Not sure if this is an intended bonus to 17D?..

  20. Raju,
Thanks for your kind words. We can use anything now like a man clinging on to a log in the big bad sea. We are safe alright ( it was a near pralaya as you said) but not dry. Managing to be partially dry only today. I have not seen anything like this in decades here in Chennai.

  21. Hi all, A few DDs were intended today where the two definitions had different parts of speech.

RAINBOW: Illusory goal // spanning a wide range (as in rainbow coalition)
CHARGE: Ask for // a fee
    POTENTIAL: Latent // Talent

  22. SODA WATER: I never said doctors prescribe that! Not intended to be an &-lit :)
    SICKLE: Red=Communist (Free Dictionary)

  23. Also to clarify for PKPSwami,

Direct pipe carrying cold current is detached (7)

Definition: Direct (as in 'conducting' a show)
    pipe: CONDUIT
    carrying: Insertion indicator
    cold: C
    current is detached: remove 'I'

  24. Clarification for 9A- (Duct= Wire)?

    ReplyDelete
  25. Freedic says duct is a pipe that carries something - if we take the skewing to be current, the definition is sound. Besides ductility is the ability of a metal to be stretched as a wire.

Not the most precise def but will do the job for me.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Please read 'something' instead of 'skewing'.
