    1. Yes Vasant and Paddy. Not high on the traditional scale - this clue - but were the instructions explicit enough to make the clue solvable?

    2. Sorry replying late...indeed the instructions were clear.
I thought it was a very good clue..an innovative one

  15. A challenging one from Bruno!(Still to get 5D though; not able to get despite all the crossings). Loved 13D, 19A,28A, 16D.
    Keep 'em coming Bruno!

  16. Truly said. Haven't solved a toughie like this in a long while.

I'm waiting for the deadline to be reached.12 across and 13 down are fantastic !!

    3. That is right Vasant. I wrote it down wrongly here.

28A Shortfall admitted by set of cheap stores (9)S{TRIP}MALL
18D Exuberant boy turns into man, becomes inept (8)BU(-b){+M}BLING [if this is the right answer, there should be some indication of which of the 3 boys turns into man]

    1. I think a purist would ask for the indication in 18d.

Maybe 'dissolvable' in place of salt-like might have been better? Another synonym for small instead of "set of cheap"?

      Delete
    2. Once you have BUBBLING it's quite obvious which one grows up to be come inept

      Delete
    3. The anno is: def ~ easily flowing, somewhat salt-like ~ soluble, v(olatile) s(ubstance) to be substituted.
for 28 A: short ~ small fall ~ trip admitted is containment ind.
18D: I agree that for the instruction to be explicit, would have to say second/middle boy. But I thought the tricky step is getting to bubbling... as the Col said. But feedback is valid and accepted.

28A- Is shortfall trip & cheap small? Def. Stores?
18D- Indication for which boy should have been there.

    1. Thank you for the feedback on SENTI Vasant and Raju. I justified (to myself) that it is such a common word - especially in India - but agree that it may not have been entirely fair to the solver...

  29. VAUDEVILLE made every one go on a merry dance?

SENTI - should there not be an indication that it is an abbreviated colloquial for SENTIMENTAL?
