Corned is to preserve with salt or brine, agreed. I don't think we can take that to mean that Corn = Salt. Chambers does not show Corn to mean Preserve/Salt which is Corned. For example Salted Beef or Preserved Beef is called Corned Beef

  17. The crosswords being published nowadays are not inviting any longer as I don't like the font used. Moreover, I am not used to the way the down and across clues are given. I get confused and waste time to get back and forth. I don't like answers given on the same day alongside. It puts me off to attempt to solve.Overall, this pastime in The Hindu doesn't hold same interest as I used to have.whats the solution ? Just grin and bear it , as I have to endure what cannot be cured ?

    1. I support your feelings. The best solution is not to use the online interactive grid. Just look at the grid and manufacture similar grid on excel sheet and then solve. I take the maximum pleasure of solving.

    2. I second that..I have always been solving in Excel(maybe because I am comfortable in it)..I copy the clues from the on line grid nowdays(previously it was from The Hub)..& paste the clues beside the prepared grid...this way one can have the challenge of solving without "cheating"

  18. I fully endorse KRK's views. For me it was a great sense of anticipation to see solutions in our thehinducrosswordcorner.blogspot
if I happen to solve >80 to 90%. If I do worse than that I have another go after my siesta and look at our blog spot. Even if I was a bit frustrated my spirits used to get elevated if I see some possible clues I had discarded appear in the solution. Now all fun is gone. I am still not able to adjust to the way Across and Down clues are juxtaposed. I hate to look at the solution given. I don't know, if anyone among us with some influence with the Hindu guys can help in restoring status quo ante. Until then, I have resolved not to touch the print edition of the paper. Of course we have to buy the paper since my wife likes it

  19. Hi All
I am disappointed to see solution published same day and the new layout. I tear the crossword page and carry with me during my travel to work and solve as much as I can. By night I come here to see solution for left overs Solution same day takes away the pleasure. I buy newspaper only for THC!!! I will write to the Hindu but not sure if I will be heard
