    1. 7 Film, can exclude a Hindi film (6) PATINA {PA}{TIN}{A}

Think the Def is the first 'film'. Exclude is 'not include' i.e PA and A outside TIN. But somehow it doesn't seem to work out.

    2. I did parse the way you did and think it works

    3. The official spelling is pas. So pa(tin)a with first film as def!

    4. I took it as PA hence the problem

  2. I too Paa as the Hindi movie( Amitabh Starer) and outside TIN.

    1. Wonder why. All the posters gave it as Paa

  3. 13A. Country girl's naked, a horny creature (7) IRELAND
18ATop of shirt tucked into opening in pant (4) GASP
are two mischievous clues. Solving these two compensated for my failing to solve more than half of the clues.

  4. Nice and lovely CW today with several enjoyable clues.
The deletion to get Congolese was very very nicely done. T's wee=re well concealed.
Abomination reminded me of Yeti- the abominable snowman.
18A- I was trying to fix P as opening in pant and could not nowhere. Good ploy.
Another enjoyable one was dictator- steno.

  5. Because the composer held such opinion Robert had to hurry.
Pick me up in Brighton, I can wait he said.
As he reached the site he thought - not good to be back...
If a film (can exclude a Hindi film) it is okay. But...
If it be a birthday bash one may spin or turn. But...
    The occasion needs solemn music.
Yes its a time to take stand - for soldiers its a humiliation.

  6. Though a steno myself, I took time to arrive at the answer for 27A. Nice wordplay.

  7. Awesome creation by Arden ! Clever adaptations of DDs & CCs.

Do the clues give us any idea about the compiler's wide knowledge about music and Geography?

Invariably, one finds clues related to Africa and names of composers devised by Arden.

I am glad that there's no matthha pacchii involving deletions and additions and convolutions !! I'm all for DDs and CDs and anagrams cleverly built into a grid. Its a great delight to the mind to do an Arden's puzzle !

  8. Slight change in CGB style. In stead of solution words, he has used words from the clues themselves today. Is it part I- more to follow?

    1. PADdy,
Yes it is indeed an ABOMINATION.
The REFEREES should ensure that no such DIGRESS occurs. The organisers in INDIA ought to be AIDED by proper guides. Things ought not to be TRIVIALISED. The PAGEANTRY must remain solemn like it used to be. Rules ought to be set and APPLIED in word and spirit. No more ODDITIES!

    2. Horde denarii or be a nun! Tonic would do or need A Steroid! Abasement or Prison! Evil or abomination! Is all ingenue a pagentry! Will the Patina ever lift or remain padded.

  9. In INDIA it was budget day. It was a PAGEANTRY of sorts. Looked like the FM had APPLIED himself, using his iPAD, AIDED by a HORDE of secretaries and the poor STENO would have had a tough time indeed!
Let me not DIGRESS. There were some ODDITIES in the budget. Did the FM do the TITRATION right and come up with the TONIC to give a boost and act as a STEROID to the economy? When the LTCG tax was announced you could hear the people GASP. When he announced corporate tax cut the opposition got off its POSTERIOR. "EVIL" cried one, "ABOMINATION" cried another. "Working classes are being led to the ABATTOIR" those from the Left. Words that would have shocked an INGENUE or a NUN were drowned in the noise. There was no PATINA of parliamentary niceties. Looks like consensus is put on DRY ICE.
