I think it's by design. So also the repeat of the letter string SPIR. The repetition of the letter string TI may have just happened.
The clues are all good with a nice mix of clue types. I am unable to do a clue by clue analysis as I have no time for that. I am packing up for an early morning trip out of Madras.
The clue "6 Northbound stooge loses ultimate love for Islamic State to become headless individualists (7)" is a classic example of careful construction, the phraseology leading unerringly to the answer.
Yes, TARRIANCE is an unusual word in that it is archaic. Even anagram solvers seem to trip up.
I don't agree with a comment above that the variant spelling 'saree' is unusual.
I must say a word about the grid. In whichever quadrant you gain a foothold, the crossings open up possibilities for you to enter other areas. No quadrant is caged. I feel a lot encouraged to try more. Vasant - yes I agree there were too many "IN"s, trendy and fashionable. Will definitely improve. Abhya - I also agree that it was one anagram too many.

Thanks very much to Col. for giving me a chance and for the first feedback where I could correct quite a few errors.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12192393812438436981noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2195377761774996603.post-65218414091949368882014-12-07T15:01:41.744+05:302014-12-07T15:01:41.744+05:30Thank you Le Roi & Col. I would have perhaps have preferred fewer anagrams, but not much else to cavil at. Especially liked 22 and 25 - uncluttered clues with elegant surfaces.

A French - and more generally European - theme seemed to be emerging in a few clues and entries, and I thought it was linked to the setter's nom de plume, but it didn't develop further.Abhayhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04198192791769284895noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2195377761774996603.post-3242196765552689292014-12-07T11:23:33.138+05:302014-12-07T11:23:33.138+05:30A simple, easy puzzle with good clues.
