+1
DeleteLovely puzzle with some smsashing clues! Except for the minor quibble of R for recruit(perhaps initial letter indicator missing) and medico where medic appears in medical officer all rest were craftily constructed.
ReplyDeleteThanks Vulcan
Actually it is stretched from recruit= learner = R
ReplyDeleteRecruit -> rookie -> rook (slang)
DeleteA strecth by any stretch of imagination
DeleteHi! 30A Chambers has recruit abbrev= AR (airman recruit).
DeleteEven if it is stretched from recruit=learner Raghu, it would be L (not R), I think. Recruit to rookie to rook is a tad too much :)
Recruit is a new man. Man to rookie to rook has been discussed in the past.
DeleteSorry I had Left in mind. I don't know how To entered.
DeleteI don't know how R came in.
DeleteBut why 'to get' when just a negotiator would do?
Deleteor is it "editor to recruit m, to get a"
DeleteProbably Vulcan had RECTOR in mind
Delete28a cantabile, is songlike a song. Does everything singable become a song.
ReplyDeleteSeveral good enjoyable clues. Unfortunately could not relish fully due to the tense Federer- Del Potro QF. Really absorbing tennis though sorry to see Federer lose. He probably lost not just a match but many milestones.
ReplyDeleteSorry to see Federer go. Was hoping he would win
Delete+1 Didnt see the match. Was hoping for the dream semi between Fedrer and Nadal
DeleteThis match looked to be better than that dream! Unfortunate it is only the QF.
ReplyDelete2 Quit a company over a deal primarily (9) ABANDONED {A}{BAND}{ONE}{Deal}
ReplyDelete(ABAN)(DONE)(Deal) also works?
Done = over
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aban_Offshore
Oh, good reading Ajeesh.
DeleteYes, that seems to work too.
Aban Lloyd is a big company.
To get a specific company like Aban from the clue is difficult and indirect. Also the intervening 'a' (which gives us 'one') is not explained in this interpretation. Band g for co. is just fine. The first 'a' in the clue is A and the second gives us one.
