The bouncer and the dancer - Part 71

" Our PASSIONS are in truth like the phoenix. The old one burns away, the new one rises out of its ashes at once." (Goethe)

With the TEAMING UP of Margarita and Shelley many more PASSIONS were kindled. What with the CONSENT of Clement the dances becoming furthermore OVERT.

Gaining entrance was quite a STAMPEDE. GIANT crowds. Even a CLERIC famed for being ABSTINENT  was occasionally seen earning the REPRIMAND of the locals.

There was NON STOP clapping as the two danced to the KETCHUP song "Aserege". The forward leaning of the enthusiastic put PISA to shame.

Linda's new found LUST for money made her buy an IRONCLAD safe to put away her share of the spoils!

Those awaiting suspense in the NARRATIVE will be happy to LEARN that Gombu was on the way to Shangri-la in an OVERLADEN truck!!

Trivia:
1. The ketchup dance was quite famous in the 70s.

  5. CGB Sir,
You have used the logo in the best possible manner today! As cryptic as your script, thanks.

    1. On second thoughts, did you add two logos today?

    2. I thought it was M & S: Marks and Spencer.

    3. I don't think so. M clearly stood for Macdonalds. S seems to be for Suzuki, I am not sure.

    4. Only one. McDonalds. But I now find that Logo for Marks and Spencer is a plain M & S. Thank you Vasant.

  8. The term "extremely". Sometime you take only one character and sometimes both end characters. Can someone explain please.

    Replies
    1. Extremely also mean, far end (on either side) from middle (of a word).

  9. What is the definition for BIRTHRATE? If it is the whole clue, what does it mean to say "their brat is included in birthrate"?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Brat is colloq for child. Birthrate is ratio of live child births per 1000 in a year.

      Delete
    2. It's a type of &lit meaning that you need to read the whole sentence to as the definiton.

      Delete
    3. @sree_sree, yes, but "live child births" is different from "child", right?

Brat is a mischievous kid, not a newborn baby. By the clue's logic, can you and me also included in birthrate?

      Delete
    4. yup. we are still alive means we were include in the birthrate. may not be this year. child is a child, does not imply of any certain age. please look at dictionary, brat is a child.

      Delete
    5. Any living or dead creature (not just humans) is part of some birthrate but that is too vague for defining the term

      Delete
  10. Yes, whole clue is teh def. and that is why it is classified as semi & lit. Birthrate is the anagram of (their brat)

  11. Arden in an impish mood today. I think he enjoyed creating this crossword as much as we enjoyed solving it. The humour in 10A, 19A & 13A were too good. Great start to the week. Thanks Arden.

    1. If you have the PASSION & LUST, get yourselves INTROduced, choose a ROOMY place, LEARN a bit more about each other, seek CONSENT,TEAM UP , shed your PRIDE , forget your ABSTINENT period and then what happens? contribute to the BIRTHRATE !!

  12. Generally, when you see long long, you tend to connect the two and think in terms of long long ago etc. Here, they are split with one of them being a def. Nice enjoyable ploy (of course, after we crack it!)
Chairs in parliament (with Col.'s addition)- we don't have to imagine. We see it on TV fairly frequently.

  13. 24A Back on fire, it might explode (9) GELIGNITE {LEG<=}{IGNITE}

Is it "back = support = leg?" and "on = up" as reversal ind?

    ReplyDelete
  14. Here '0n' refers to the 'leg' side in Cricket parlance MB

  15. I took it as-
On= Leg (cricket)- back is Gel
    Fire- Ignite
