23DN Probably idiomatic.."wipe the floor with" ?
Wipe the floor with:defeat. Skins and shirts:two sides(uniform) of a game.

DeleteAgreed. Unfortunately, there is no support by dictionaries for Peepal
DeleteSince it is a Hindi word it can be spelt both ways in English
DeleteKRK: I don't get what you mean.
DeletePEEPAL is not a grid entry. Nor is it in the clue. "Tree, one might say" is a HP ind and the sound fetches 'people'. So it does not matter if it is peepul or peepal. The latter is a sp var in some dictionaries.
Vasi Sir,
DeleteWhat I meant was my dicts. didn't have the spelling variant of peepal, whereas the other variants like pipal, pipul are given
KKR, in the context of thc

ReplyDelete6D:I took it as Def by Example. The word Rhythms is filled only with consonant.
ReplyDeleteYou have a point. But still, could it not be a DD?
DeleteYes it is a DD.
Delete23d.....can we say it as CLOTH.....WIPE OF FLOOR BY MEANS....COULD NOT GET THE LOGIC....EXPERTS OPINION PLEASE....

ReplyDeletePrasanna
ReplyDeleteMay I request you to use only uc/lc as in normal writing and not ALL CAPS.
I second that, as ALL CAPS in computer vocabulary means you are shouting.
DeletePeepul=people. homophone. But in my opinion, people would mean people in general and family is specific to kinship. Hrnce, using people is more generic but family is specific. Wordplay is too far-fetched and does not please me !
ReplyDeletePeople is "a body of persons held together by common origin"(culture/race etc. Same for family. People in gen or ordinary people are referred as " the people". We, the people!!!
DeleteHarmonious and consonant: Nice synonym. I liked this !
ReplyDeleteJohns japes . Is there a need for an apostrophe as John's ? jzpes= tricks, but why John's ? Brevity is the soul of wit ?
John's are the turn tricks!!!
Delete????? ! I don't get you , sir ?
