    1. 'the solver' makes it very easy. 'you' itself could refer to the solver?

  2. Estoppel was new to me though I knew Estop as a legal term.
    So was Tyrol.

  3. 11AC My take [I am sure it is wrong!] is:
Shot in two parts is SW+ARM
    one part is SW =directional
other part is shot in the ARM

    3. I read as "group shot in(to)" two parts. (=part+part).

  4. It was quite easy flowing today! 50% of clues fell in the first pass. A rare happening.

  5. My take
    Group shot in two parts
Surface: A group photo is taken in two parts (to be merged later)
WP: Group - def - adj in surface, v as def for word reqd
shot in two parts - S HOT
    s - S
    hot - WARM

  9. 19D. GST is an abbreviation rather than an acronym.
16D. Should it not be 'eats them'?

    1. Interesting point! Indeed there is a school of thought that believes Acronyms should only refer to those abbreviations that can be pronounced as a word like NASA RADAR LASER NATO to name a few, whilst 'Initialism' should be the term used if it is not a pronounceable name and the individual letters are all pronounced distinctly as with BBC FBI GST RBI etc.

    2. Interesting. I had not heard about this and was wondering why GST is not an acronym?

    3. I am a member of that school of thought and have mentioned the distinction here on occasions. Yet not all agree and acronym may be used for abbr. as well.

    4. +1 to Doc and CV sir. "Sufficient and/or necessary" is still not resolved in my minf. I understand "gst, perhaps" or "NASA, perhaps" to indicate abbreviation. I am not able to get gst, perhaps=NASA, perhaps=acronym/initialism.
