The STRAIN of the TRUMPETS could be heard clearly through the music system.

HEADSTRONG Paul had managed to get Rani to be his partner in the LAMBADA dance in the carnival. ENRAGED Rani wished to ABANDON the rehearsal.

However she did not like TALES being spun around her and Paul and this was the EXACT reason for her to carry on.

      Sundaram, We need to give annos only if we post our answers here.
      If you have solved a grid completely within a reasonable time and have derived some fun in your agreeable engagement with the puzzle, it is fine.
      After all, you cannot solve a clue a clue unless you have interpreted the wordplay correctly.
      True, some clues might be solved from def only, but I guess you did see later how the answer is derivable. That's also fine.

    An unusually quick solve for me, it has been so this week. Most of the answers came to mind even before I read the clues fully - 11, 15, 20 across are some of them.

    Are there two different types of crosswords even among cryptics?
    One straightforward and the other roundabout or challenging?
    Which of these you prefer?
    Or is there a third type of crossword in which some clues are easy and some that expect a little straining?
    I guess solvers will prefer one or the other of these.

      Easy and hard is relative to solvers skill and knowledge, IMU. I like cryptic, the zoology one. Things that make your brain rummage the storage area deeper than the OED. Like 5d/16a. 15a is very elegant construction, highlighting the skill of setter. But it doesn't excite me.

      Easy or tough depends on solver's skills. What was tough when I started solving has become easy now.
      A crossword can be easy and enjoyable like those of Sankalak and Gridman. It can be tough and challenging like those of XC and Skulldugger.If we want to improve as solvers we should do all.

      I think setters also try to have all three types of clues,but there are exceptions of course.
      I agree with Vasanth about solvers' skill improving like many of us have experienced here.

      Although the clue is crisp but 50% of the answer(and) appears in the clue.
      Also in 21D, almost the entire answer is available SALADe in the clue itself.
