Kacheri or kucheri(Subcontinent courthouse) take your pick
Sounds like Cut Cheery (sliced fruit)
    4A Disturbing instrument sound (9)
    Violating meaning disturbing
    Viola is instrument
    Ting is sound
5D The burden to contain the enemy from West lies on the exclusive member of the group (3,2,2)
    One of us
Onus(burden) contains Foe (enemy) reversed (from west)
The reversal indicator in a down clue should have been from North and not west, isn't it?

  17. kachei/ kucheri is a Hindi word adopted in Tamil as well. My father was an advocate in a small town and the court there used to be referred to as kacheri.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Thanks Paddy,
I too remember its Tamil usage. We had a colleague in our Finance Dept those days who used to coordinate IT Dept issues and usually was out of office. Once I saw him going out of office, I asked him where he was going. He told me that he was going to kacheri (we used to call IT Dept so) and promised to be back soon.
Later on, I came to know that he meant it literally. He went to Music Academy to attend a kacheri!

    ReplyDelete
  19. Oh! I never thought of that- in this context. Yes, it is a nice pun. Even a session of cards is called 'seettu kacheri'!
