Deletekachei/ kucheri is a Hindi word adopted in Tamil as well. My father was an advocate in a small town and the court there used to be referred to as kacheri.
ReplyDeleteThanks Paddy,
ReplyDeleteI too remember its Tamil usage. We had a colleague in our Finance Dept those days who used to coordinate IT Dept issues and usually was out of office. Once I saw him going out of office, I asked him where he was going. He told me that he was going to kacheri (we used to call IT Dept so) and promised to be back soon.
Later on, I came to know that he meant it literally. He went to Music Academy to attend a kacheri!
Oh! I never thought of that- in this context. Yes, it is a nice pun. Even a session of cards is called 'seettu kacheri'!
ReplyDeleteஎங்க வீட்டுக்காரரும் கச்சேரிக்குப் போறார்.
