  24. 19 D HAWAII ?
    Loud Greeting = HII
Don't know how to annotate for awa

    1. I think it is Loud cheerful greeting = HI and HI is the abbreviation for HAWAII

    2. I think this is the clue most people found a bit difficult to anno. What I had in mind was a hp of "How are ye" (in an American accent :) ) to get Hawaii. With "loudly" as the hp indicator. Not a clue that I was very happy with!

    3. Thanks for a clean grid, Ramki, except for HAWAII . I got the answer but couldn't figure out the parsing, except that HI was taken by me as a greeting in the US but then I also thought that State could be a country whose name ended with HI. It is indeed a bit outre and far-fetched to presume that How are ye or loudly could be the phonetic indicator. But for your annotation, this five letter word could be Hawaii or Malawi or some such. The decoy didn't work with many, I suppose ! Instead of loud, cheerful US state, you could have at least used a upper case for State/ Well tried, though ! How many amongst the contestants got it right ? that could be the indicator for your ingenuity !

Myriad are the miracles played by compilers to beguile the solvers !!
