  1. 9A: I thought that "has" is the T-indicator, in which case "then" is redundant in the cryptic reading.

  2. 9a has is the indicator. Then felt extraneous.IMU. gotten is alternate PP of got.

    1. OED does have STATS as an abbreviation for Statistics. But it describes statistics as the science of analyzing data, and not as data itself.

    2. Yes. That's why the doubt. My wife Roopa is attending her first classes in the unviversity as PhD student from monday. The topic is research methodologies and I gave her introduction and terminology/glossary last night.

    3. stats., abbreviation for statistics = numerical data. Why a problem here?

    4. The doubt is abt the abbreviation stats. Is it applicable to the noun statistics or statistic.

    5. In general usage I would read it as 'statistics' esp with the s at the end. Anyway there is dictionary support for this, refer
      https://www.thefreedictionary.com/stats

    6. And to Ramki's @8:49 - OED is referring to the numbers and not the science, please see the example sentences. You should consider the link to 'statistics' as pointing to the plural of 'statistic'

    7. Stat=Statistic=datum
      Stats=statistics=data
      This is my understanding

    8. Bhala - you are right, the example given in OED does use statistics to mean data.
      ‘It is difficult to know how much, because the Government simply does not collect statistics on it.’

  6. +3: I loved the wordplay in CATARACT. Blinding down pour.

    I don”’t mind the abbreviation for statistics but there should be an indicator for its usage .

    Thanks, Vulcan.
