29a ATYPICAL - outlier {a clay pit *}
ReplyDelete3d RATTY - irritable {ray} in {tt}
15d KHATMANDU - capital {a mad thunk*}
Going good. Thank you everyone for attempting
ReplyDelete12ac - UNARY dd?
ReplyDeleteU + nary
DeleteYes. I doubt all you well experienced solvers and experts would classify it as a DD
DeleteI had set 28ac. a wee bit differently
ReplyDeleteThe r in yard had a strike-through. (Brick-bat expected here.)
ReplyDelete28a- Day out- Picnic- Is it RA of Yad (Yard~Yad) I got day out but was not sure of parsing until I saw your comment. Not sure if you can combine homonym and RA. Over to the experts.
DeleteGhaza! Nice grid. Finished quickly as I have some work.
ReplyDeleteThanx...
Thank you.
ReplyDeleteHmmm. My intended annotation was different.
ReplyDeleteIs the grid OK!
ReplyDeleteWould appreciate if you point out the specific problem rather than being general
DeleteI had seen a single white (island light) above 11d.
DeleteIts not there now. Sorry if my eye played me.
I corrected it after seeing Ghaza's post at 10:57below
DeleteYou are right. There is a problem with the picture here.
ReplyDeleteThe single white boxes in the second and second last rows should be black.
ReplyDeleteMy copy of the png file looks ok. I don't know what happened
ReplyDeleteIt was a mistake while setting up the post. Have corrected it now
DeleteMine looks ok. I solved also. 🤔
DeleteNo Gemini, this one is off-track
ReplyDeleteOnce again requesting everyone to please put all your answers in one comment. Next week onwards I will enforce the rule.
ReplyDeleteI generally post one answer. And then I reply to my own post with the the other answers. This ensures I can post whenever I find an answer and also all my answers are in a single place. Is this fine ?
DeleteSorry colonel.
ReplyDelete25ac is incorrect.
ReplyDeleteI'd thought of a different anno for Enemy
I have made a mistake with clue numbering. 24d and 25d are swapped
ReplyDeleteSorry
ReplyDelete25 ac
ReplyDelete25 ac
ReplyDeleteReplacement
ReplyDelete21a PASCAL - unit of pressure
pressure - p
when - as
unit of heat - cal
{p}{as}{cal}
Pressure on double duty?
Yes, pressure on double duty. Unit also tries to span pressure and heart.
ReplyDeleteHeat
Delete10a STUPOR = Coma
ReplyDeleteSTumbleUPonORigins
13a LIBERATES= Releases
Chinese grand slam winner = LI +
Scolds= Berates
7d EXPAT = Vijay Mallya
Old = Ex +
Tap back = Pat
Quite a few left for the solution to be posted. Here's what I have listed:
ReplyDeleteAcross: 5, 9, 10, 13, 14, 16, 19, 23, 25, 26, 27, 28
Down: 4, 6, 7, 8, 17, 18, 20, 21, 22, 24 (incorrect numbered)
9A- Manitoba- State- (Ambition)*. But I am unable to account for AI transformation.
ReplyDeleteSorry Col. This is my 2nd and I will stop with 2.
Maybe think about AI transformation for a minute more. You are close.
DeleteGot it. Thank you for the tip. Exchange A for I.
DeleteThere are 2 I's in ambition. Change one to A and then anagram it.
I was done in by the (intended?) red herring of Artificial Intelligence!
So, the correct way of putting it would be (Ambition- I+A)*= Manitoba
DeleteI had posted a list of clues for which the solution hasn't yet been posted. Looks like it's gone to spam.
ReplyDeleteAlso looking for an alternate anno for Enemy.
ReplyDeleteAnd, what is Rome doing in 2d
San Marino is inside Italy- but outside Rome.
ReplyDelete5 ac asleep DD
ReplyDelete6 dn saturdays -yesterday
a turd -crap s ( a turd)ays.
8 dn port side.left -port side -right
5ac is a CD ???
DeleteYes,it is a CD.
DeleteI thought about it this way. The first one people think about when asked about a tiny country is Vatican City, which is inside Rome.
ReplyDeleteOkay. Got it.
Delete14A- linked-added a url; (b)linked-hesitated;
ReplyDelete19A-flouted-defied; F(lout)ed;
22D-handel-composer; name is handle; anagram of handle
22d is indirect.
DeleteStill left open:
ReplyDeleteAcross: 16, 23, 25, 26, 27, 28
Down: 4, 17, 18, 20, 21, 24 (should be 25)
I had assumed the anno for 16ac differently
ReplyDeleteTempered= massaged. So Costing silver is (massaged- ag)= massed.
ReplyDeleteOne is of course A.
Am I right?
Ya, that's how I had set it.
ReplyDeleteManipulate, tamper are given as meanings of massage. So, I felt tampered would have been better than tempered. Tempering generally used in metallurgy for treating/softening of metals.
ReplyDelete17D: SPA[S(MODI)C]
ReplyDelete20D: [P(A)(Y)(MEN)T]
only two from me
21d
DeleteLike to know the role of 'so' in the clue.
Looks like it has been added only for surface reading. Even so it is confusing. OR capitalisation (to indicate Other Ranks) adds to the confusion.
DeleteSimilarly 7d 'needs his' ?
DeleteReplacement
ReplyDelete26a TEEING - starting
pouring - teeming
money - m
{tee(-m)ing}
24d, full and half, i' m an ape
ReplyDeleteSolution = chimp
which is 50% of Chimpanzee, which also is the same
27a, rang a bell = reminded
ReplyDeleteA roe back = deer <=
Mind = object
24 a = campa, project revived by Reliance
ReplyDeleteBloc = camp
ReplyDeleteA = a
So, campa
23A still seems to be pending. Can any one do it? It looks like there is a problem there. At least I am not able to get it.
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
Delete26A ha been done by Ramesh@2.47
ReplyDeleteI had done 28A after a comment by setter about it- day out.
ReplyDelete25D done by Gemini. No money giving MNEY. Not quite happy about it- removal of O.
ReplyDeleteNo 35 D- obviously 25.
So only 23 A. Either setter or anyone can do it and close.
I had swapped the clues for 24d and 25d while typing. That was an error
ReplyDeleteEnemy was thought of as pronouncing the letters n-m-e
ReplyDelete23ac is Even Money. The meaning was meant to imply equal chances. I understand that you all dislike the clueing here. O and E were the even letters of Money.
ReplyDeleteEqually does not fit in. It has to be equal. Even money bet,it is said.
ReplyDeleteTo put it grammatically even money is an adj and equally is an adverb. I hope my grammar is right.
Enjoyed doing it in spite of a few doubts and clarifications. Good start.
ReplyDeleteI now understand what the problem is with this clue- enu is 5,4 whereas even money is 4,5. No wonder we could not do it.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the special Ghaza
ReplyDelete20d was Deny
ReplyDeleteThanks for all the feedback. Thanks to all those who attempted. Thanks to Col. for giving the chance.
ReplyDelete20D- Deny- (definitely- Deny it)*
ReplyDeleteCan it be called semi &Lit?
The thought was Deny for Definitely not. (Definitely - file it)*
ReplyDeleteI see the point that "not" coming in between the anagram fodder and what to subtract and then the indicator is not good clueing.
ReplyDeleteThanks a lot, Sathia.
ReplyDeleteI have 2 more in the pipeline, but now I need to check them again and rework some of the clues.
