  1. Thank you KrissKross for a nice CW with a different acrostic!
Nice to see our good old Central Station. Those days,in Tamil films they used to show it if one comes to Chennai, nee Madras! Nowadays, is it the airport?

      Probably, people's reach has widened.

  2. 20A- Better,as a gambler, merges so nicely with the surface that it took a while to decipher. One is easily led astray.

    1. I think a variant spelling needs an indication.

    2. Free did.gives it as a variant of bettor (one who bers)

    3. I think both spellings are valid. In fact Chambers online lists "better" as the first spelling and "bettor" as a variant ("sometimes bettor") and I went with that.

  4. 19d RECORDS
They get rewritten as in track events when distances are covered in shorter times creating new records.

  5. Dear Mr. Ramki Krishnan,
Compliments to you for compiling this tricky grid of today. I logged in/accessed this blogsite, pretty late (around 9 p.m) as such pardon me for this delayed reaction.
Managed to solve a good number of the clues and at the same time, let me admit that 14-A literally perplexed me. - Vessel carrying that man, about to become a leader
I reckoned vessel to be a ship or a steamer (SS) & tried interweaving SS with HE or HIM, all in vain!!.
Finally, realised how & why I failed to solve only after I accessed this site.
