ReplyDeleteSeveral new words- several of them with not so easy clues. Had a tough time and finally came to the blog for clarifications.
ReplyDelete12a titbit about storm(y) petrel
ReplyDelete"Because these birds fly alongside ships during storms to take shelter from high winds, sailors’ legends say the appearance of a storm petrel foretells bad weather""
yes, I too have read about it. Goes to show birds and animals have a better sense of things to come!
ReplyDeleteGood one😁
ReplyDeleteMiddle stump uprooted.
ReplyDeleteAnother gem from Bruno. 8D was new to me.
ReplyDeleteVery good puzzle.Thanks BRUNO
ReplyDeleteThank you Prasad and maradnusro
Delete3D?
ReplyDeleteSmooth puzzle from Bruno. I found it slightly easier than yesterday's grid. Perhaps the consecutive warm-ups provided by Crescent and Bruno have made the mind sharper.
ReplyDeleteThere was some interesting wordplay using DELI in 3 of the clues (DELI, DELICATESSEN and FLEUR DE LIS). SHILLELAGH, myopies and BEANFEASTS were new concepts for me, but with precise wordplay they were easy to solve. I had marked 12A STORMY PETREL as a reverse anagram but had to get many crossings before finally deducing the answer.
The wordplay was well-done in the cases of 20A NEW ZEALANDER, 24A BLACK SHEEP and 4 ADMIRER.
Is "flag" an accurate definition for FLEUR DE LIS? It is a coat of arms and a symbol used by many organizations such as the Boy Scouts. But I'm not sure it can be described as a flag.
The old French flag is called the fleur de lis and it bears the flower.
DeleteThe clue for 9-A "Teetotaller in abstinence organization's famous - man has medical specialist's skill" was pretty tricky in the sense I solved it as ANESTHESIA. Teetotaller usually referred as TT that I could not place these two letters, the Abistnence forum being AA (Alcoholic Anonymous), and medical specialist's skill as ANESTHESIA.
ReplyDeleteWaited till I accessed this blogsite for the correct answer.
It was tricky for sure. I had got ATTA__M_N_ using AA, TT and crossings before I could figure out the anno.
DeleteI have marked 6A as UFOS but can't for the life of me get the intended anno. Probably something like anagram of FAMOUS minus MA, but I cannot confirm it based on the wording.
ReplyDeleteMeToo
DeleteTry reading french man
Deletedon't see any problem in anno
Delete(FAMOUS-A, M)* &lit
You are correct @Jacob
DeleteSorry about the difficulty level...
ReplyDelete3D=Faint-hearted... :-) Good redirection. I think you are ready for some hard ones Sathia...
