  5. EVEN AFTER Vladimir had said that he was prepared TO DIE FOR her, Olive did not care.
He was rejected for being poor.
Vladimir soon became USURPER of a GHETTO. Wanted to make money out of RUBBISH
and move from RAGS TO RICHES.
He was OFTEN seen moving in STEALTH holding a BLACK BOX.
    What happened next?

  10. Though it was disappointing to have fewer than usual Incognito puzzles this month, the grid was on the easier side.

At first I thought "fight" was an error in 13A and that it should read "flight" for a straight type clue. But It turns out the fight was part of the charade all along and I had been a PAWN. Until today I had never heard a footbridge described as "alluring" - I would love to see such an example in reality. 1D CHEAP JACK was also a well-clued charade. There was an appropriate use of "ceroc" as fodder and "dancing" as anagrind in 16D. 19D was a charade with 2 deletions which was unusual and neat to solve.

The spoonerism in 2D NIT-PICK was enjoyable. However, as a nit-pick, "nit-pick" and "damn" are not listed directly as synonyms (ref Chambers). The former means "to find minor faults" and the latter means "to condemn" - these are not exactly the same action.

I was unable to find a reference for Uniform = U. In what context is this abbreviation used outside of cryptic crosswords?

The definition of 12A "for elevation" should have come with a question mark or exclamation as it is not a precise definition for EGO-TRIP. It reads more like a definition for 15D ESCALATES.

"Man" in 28A is a proper noun referring to ISLE of Man and as such needs an indicator.

In 29A the definition was "who rose from poverty to affluence" while the solution was RAGS TO RICHES, which describes "how one rose from poverty to affluence" (def. describes a person vs. solution describes a process).

How does "exercising" work as a containment indicator in 17D? I feel it is a valid anagram indicator. If it is indeed an anagram indicator, then 17D is an indirect anagram without anagrind for P.

  11. I also didn't get NIT PICK from damn. Infact I wanted to fill GET LOST but could not annotate.
Also did not know DRUPE. Had to Google.
So tough as per normal KKR standards - according to me.
    Thanx KKR!

  12. Perhaps, the meaning is based on perception. Nit picking can be used as a deliberate ploy to damn.
