ReplyDeleteSorry - for all those who are not going to enjoy this one.
The definitions are mostly easily identifiable(GK) and needed googling for me. The wordplay is nice. Thanks.

I have a doubt though- it is old city within the addicts and not as stated in the clue.
I thought, we can imagine a comma after addicts and then it could be interpreted as the old city is within addicts

DeleteIga swiatek and polish bagel for ring to"o".
Its a treasure hunt clue.
Iga->iag o
iAGO from othello
Bagel is a 6-0 score in tennis
DeleteHow do one get O feom 6-0!
DeleteI tried to use bagel for O, like we often see ring for O.
DeleteBagel means blank set score(6-0) in tennis score. Briefly, especially for tie breaks, the loser's score is indicated in tennis. Here bagel indicates 0(6-0).
DeleteAlso because the term bagel is used quite a bit during Swiatek's matches.
Delete2d IAGO: antagonist in Shakespeare's Othello
ReplyDeleteIGA: French open champion
A gravitational shift: ag instead of ga
Bagel in tennis is. 6-0
Hence IAG with O
👌
DeleteWe seem to have had a play of numbers in addition to play of words. Nothing to complain.

ReplyDelete12A 'Elected to rip' off(deletion) a person’s head(-p) with a polygraph. - LIE DETECTOR
Is there an explicit anind?
19D A sailor(RAT?) adopts(cont ind) the independent(I) soldiers(MEN)’ garments. - RAIMENT.
Hi Rao,
Delete"off" was the anind, "with" was meant to indicate p is extra over the polygraph.
I think I've seen rat for sailor a few times in Hindu crosswords, am I mistaken?
One more thing to be noted, there's a Y2K problem! All numbers had 19 as prefix, but one(4D).
ReplyDeleteYou are right
DeleteThanks for the special Ghaza
