23A Is Dipthong even a word ? How does it even make sense.I get dip is to swim and thong is a minimal wear but how does it all add up?
ReplyDeleteSee the link in the main post over the word DIPTHONG
DeleteDiphthong is given as a word but not Dipthong. The highlighted words are for example,I. The jump isn't all that obvious for a " novice". How the h is missed out? Or is it too much to ask...
DeleteNo the def is "I" Pronounced eye. Def by example
DeleteVowel I is a dipthong vowel.
DeleteI also didn't understand at all. Simply filled DIPTHONG.
DeleteThanx Prasad!
Ok thanks for the prompt response . Now I get it.But is there an alternate spelling for diphthong without the h.My references all spell it diphthong.
ReplyDeleteEven the link takes you to diphthong, seems an oversight.
DeleteGood catch, Kayyessee. It is indeed a mistake. My apologies.
DeleteFinally all doubts cleared.
DeleteFirst time - I felt dumb struck in a Kishore grid.
I always pride in filling ur grid straight & cold. Didn't want to Google at all.
Vladimir took one wrong STEP as an ASSESSEE and was NAILED by the Tax Authorities.
ReplyDeleteHe was AGHAST and quickly went to his Auditor to HANDOVER the issue.
"MONSIEUR...the problem is your huge CORPUS. HUGER than even that of GEORGE BUSH."
"So what?"
What happened next?
21a SUDANESE
ReplyDeletedef: these africans
to some extent they are danes as danes is inside sudanese.
Though the annotation fits the bill, the clue could have been more cryptic, imho.
DeleteExcept 23-A, managed to solve the rest of the lively, lovely & tricky clues set by Mr. Kishore 'Incognito' Rao.
ReplyDelete22D- Link leads to Drachma and I also remember it so. But enu is only 6 and Col. has spelt it as Drachm!
ReplyDeleteOn line dic.defines Drachm as "Hellenistic drachma".
ReplyDeletePlease Google Drachm. It is an alternate spelling for drachma. The word also appears in Chambers just before Drachma
ReplyDeleteDrachm has already appeared before. So no issues.
ReplyDeleteBut how is one supposed to get SUDANESE from Danes. Or is it like a CD?
First time Incognito leaving me stumped for annos.
Loved VENICE, BLACKSMITH, BOWL OVER & MAIDEN.
Thanx Kishore!
Reg some one's suggestion here - that Friday sees more participation & hence repeating the format more often, my take -
ReplyDeleteOn Fridays, people solve & post.
Other days too, they will be solving. We don't know.
The purpose of the blog is to encourage solving, learning & solving some more & better which is happening on all days, I'm sure. So Friday is not a yardstick. Is what I feel.
👍
DeleteI feel that the time of posting answers should be delayed a bit.If it is posted one has to fight a tendency to look here. If you know what I mean
ReplyDeleteI can't comment on this.
ReplyDeleteSince it must be obvious by now - I solve late at night. After 9pm.
