ReplyDeleteAs a novice, I have a technical query to help in my learning. Can there be as many anagrinds as there are fodders to make the final anagrist for the solution?
For example in 9d, there is one anagrind - outraged- for the anagrist - [blonde teen + rude].
However in 16d, there are two anagrinds - dilapidated for fodder 'room' and abandoned for fodder 'ship' to make the anagrist [room+ship] to arrive at the solution.
My question is, whether a setter can have multiple anagrinds for multiple fodders in the same clue?
Can experts and veterans clarify?
I think there is no rule of having how many anagram fodders and how many anagram indicators. Depends how the setter words the clue. The same clue can be written as "Dilapidated Ship room..."

ReplyDeleteIt all depends on surface construction and that surface being "cryptic" enough (even if it's only for few seconds, it should take your mind away to elsewhere than the solution)
