Typo in 7d sans!
ReplyDelete7D. Sans= without, as my Vocab goes. However San means without is what the anno says. San is used more as a honorifics title.In japanese, for instance, tanaka san ..
ReplyDeleteSorry. Read Sree sree's comment late
ReplyDeleteWithout = sans
ReplyDeleteHampered is the indicator to delete last letter to give SAN
Sree sree ( Not referring to a Telugu Revolutionary poet of yesteryears!), stated that san is a typo
DeleteHampered without= San
ReplyDeleteGold coin not a= Guine
Am I right?
A few tough ones, a few good ones and a few 'Not fair' ones (eg Annie-16A) made it difficult for me. On the whole, a good CW.
ReplyDelete10.1 for 'X one' is a good one.
ReplyDelete6d dignitary digy -home project +in+tar. (notable)
ReplyDeleteNot correct
Delete6D-dignitary=notable; Di(gni)(tar)y; to be =ing<=; sailor=tar; Not sure
ReplyDeleteDIY=home project
ReplyDeleteDIY- Do It Yourself- Home Project.
ReplyDeleteBut how do we get 'IGN'? D (IGN) I TAR Y
"Be involved" should lead to it, but I can't understand how.
Rating is a sailor (NCO or ordinary seaman) about indicator to reverse.
DeleteHome work is DIY
Hence, (Di(gnitar)Y)
Sathia
Since no one has given the anno for 6D, I am giving the intended anno below.
ReplyDeletehome project = DIY
sailor = RATING
about = rev ind, be involved in = insertion ind
DI(RATING<<)Y = DIGNITARY = notable (noun)
From Collins
rating
in British English
(ˈreɪtɪŋ IPA Pronunciation Guide)
noun
2. (in certain navies) a sailor who holds neither commissioned nor warrant rank; an ordinary seaman
Thanks!
ReplyDeleteRating as a sailor is new to me. Learning continues!
ReplyDeleteGood one Sathia!!!
Thank you Ramki.
ReplyDeleteI found it tough today.
ReplyDeleteIn 19 and 26 - Byzantine is anagrid?
In 27ac - how do u get Ex (iled is food store counter)
In 29ac - what is lines? (Ishow)* over L.
24ac - quits is even?
IN 5ac - what is against?
But I finished with crossings
Liked
SANGUID, SOMEWHAT, EXONERATE.
Thanx Ramki!
Thanks for the comments Gowri.
ReplyDeleteSome explanations.
1) In LOUD AND CLEAR, "byzantine" is the anagram indicator. Used in the sense of "devious"
2) EXILED - "from" = "EX" (commercial usage e.g. "ex warehouse")
3) OWLISH - "lines" is the insertion indicator for L (latin) to go inside ISHOW*
4) EVOKE - Yes, "quits" = even. (e.g. "We are quits now")
5) ADDS UP - "is against" is just a connector between A DD and SUP (the two parts of the charade)
Hope this helps.
Thank u so much!
ReplyDeleteI'm still not fully clued in to ur style of cluing.
Hence couldn't understand. Thanx again!
