The bouncer and the dancer - Part 58

Turns out that Rita is the younger sister of Oscar's EX-WIFE.

Linda STEPS IN with the two into a room filled with TOBACCO smoke
EMITTED by constant PUFFING of Clement who is morose.

Having seen Rita in many a magazine Clement knew her as an ELITE
dancer.

JOINT discussions are held and the duo of  Clement and Linda OUT BLUFF
one another and convince Rita to resign from Gemini.

SS is not aware of the development and is found blissfully in conversation
with FRIENDS enjoying smoking the HOOKAH.

Are his dreams shattered by a Hookah?

    1. Plausible. Sounds logical.

    2. Only doubt is whether GEN would qualify for indirect anagram!

    3. Nothing indirect.
      As given in the blog
      {NARC(-ot)IC}*{O}{GEN}

      Delete
    4. I took little gen to mean GE(n) and ON with harmful as ananind.

      Delete
    5. Carcinogen has to be harmful substance and just not substance, I think.

      Delete
    6. Dictionary defines it as substance only. The adjective is added as a precaution perhaps

    7. KKR if O is from ON then the answer as per wordplay becomes {NARC(-ot)IC*}{GEN}{O}

    8. I also mentioned harmful as another anind in the clue (besides abuse). That may help

    2. I remember having smoked a lot during my college days. It was a fad and I puffed continuously. And every brand and every type..cigar..cigarettes..pipes..bidis(!)..
      Once college was over..the habit dropped and now I wonder whyever I smoked..but then those were the days.

  5. 20 across: Scent is not a rage (4)- Fume . Annotation given is (- PER) Fume. where is the deletion indicator for PER ? Is it A ? Instead, in my opinion, Scent==fume (as in smoke fume ) and FUME= Scent= Fume also is to fume in rage ? Rage with many meanings ? CD ? I stand to get corrected.
