    7Dn. TSAR acrostic. Tyrant seems to be doing double duty. I thought Tsar simply meant King ( a variation of Caeser in Russian like Kaiser in German) Does that mean tyrant?

      21Ac Anno. I guess 'winking' is to be treated as 'win king'. Normally one sees solution to be parsed this way. Is there an unwritten rule that a word in the clue not to be split this way?

      The question mark at the end of the clue is an indication that something a bit unusual is going on. In this case there is ellison involved and fast has to be parsed as F as T - a substitute to Change T to F in RITE (Puja) to get RIFE (Prevalent). Since lent is already in Prevalent, it is highly unlikely to be the answer. Ofcourse, the surface hints at a fast like Ekadasi or Lent or any other religious observance.
