ReplyDelete8d i see no anno.
ReplyDeleteDef by example. They are isomorphs of each other.
But "to/is to" would have been better than "and".
Anagram indicators missing in 16D and 5D.
ReplyDeleteIs water ski a sport. The sport would be water skiing
+1 on all 3 points.
Delete8d sodium nitrate and calcium sulphate are isomorphs. Substances having similar crystal structures are called isomorphs in chemistry.
ReplyDeleteThank you AJ. Chemistry was never my strong point
DeleteCol.sir. This will be DD???? AJ mam is prof. of Maths and chemistry......
DeletePrasanna, all sciences are inter-linked. Crystal structures come under solid state chemistry. I know nothing about their chemical properties. I happened to help my colleagues in chemistry about the structural aspects of crystals. For me, structural similarity is purely a geometrical thing. Similarity is not a loose concept in geometry. It is a rigid one, needing the faces and edges to be proportionate and interfacial angles to be equal. My knowledge ends here.
DeleteAnyway, you are better off than all of us.
DeleteWhat is popularly called "westernisation" Is a form of isomorphism!!!
DeleteAnd when isomorphic substances react one gets "Solid Solution"
DeleteIncidentally biweekly is every 14 days, not 15
ReplyDeleteI was also thinking about fortnightly.
ReplyDeleteDictionary gives both as synonyms without saying once in 14/15 days. Maybe just loosely used. once in 14 days is more precise.
ReplyDeleteBiweekly is the most confusing word in English. In a way epitome of the fight between techincal orthodoxy vs pop culture!!!
DeleteYou book a holiday suite for 2 weeks (14 days) and end up spending 15 days on holiday. !!!
Mostly from ambiguity from shifting to Lunar calender to dynamic calenders!!!
Dynastic* calender
DeleteWith all the above doubts- it was easy run today. Finished fast. Isomorph - an esoteric clue?
ReplyDeleteSTABLEMATE -my Cod.
Thanks Afterdark
27 d, stop = REST
ReplyDeleteRoad = STreet
On = RE
Re bi-weekly, it is used to mean 15 days with respet to things like wage payments on bi-wekly basis. There may be other uses as well.
ReplyDeleteAdding to the confusion is the fact that biweekly could also mean twice a week!
ReplyDeleteThat's right
