Beautiful puzzle. Arden weaves magic today. Thanks Arden.
ReplyDeletePrasad:A in B=B in A in a down clue can be found in 21d today too.
ReplyDeleteI have no problem with simple in/within/without. After all a comma is a setters license, to place it explicitly or not. But when a directional proposition like to or from are used I think that license is withdrawn. "To be in" clearly indicates which one of the fodder is tagged to "in". That's all.
DeleteExcellent puzzle. Found it tough
ReplyDelete13A, 25A and 28A super
8 dn: SUE = Girl ? How Sir ?
ReplyDeleteName of a girl.
DeleteIf there is follow in the clue, this girl has to be there:-)
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sue_(name)
DeleteLegal term follow/pursue, Latin term sequi/sue. Sue, as ref to Marie-Joseph Sue, French writer.
Delete8Dn What is the containment indicator for girl Sue?
ReplyDeleteFinally! (Its been used before, you can get it)
DeleteIs 'finally' on double duty for 'end' and also as containment ind?
DeleteFinally meaning "in the end". This is what Prasad meant in his message.
DeleteSue inside end(finally=in the end) EN(Sue)D
DeleteThanks Prasad, KKR and Vasant!
DeleteFinally the tube light started functioning!!
Thanks a lot for the clarifications.
ReplyDeleteRe 28a
ReplyDeleteShould 'about' as anag signal follow or precede the fodder? Pl give considered reply by (if possible) citing examples.
I agree, sir. Couldn’t find meaning of about that works before the fodder and can be an instruction to jumble
DeleteI don't think `about' works as an anagram indicator before the fodder. The definition of about that gives the sense of movement is `moving here and there'.
DeleteHere, in this particular clue, `side' is the fodder. If we want to signal that the word side is moving here and there, you would say, `side is moving here and about' and not `moving here and about side'. The latter is not meaningful
I took "about" applied to complaint and the clue as CA.
DeleteLots of 'complaints' today - gout, diabetes, even malaise..
ReplyDeleteGood observation!
DeleteNice and tough!
