15D is not clear. I could only understand Tart from sharp.
ReplyDeleteIt's Palle<=
DeleteVa let beat me- I mean the split.
ReplyDelete15d Noun. palle. hem (border of an article of clothing doubled back and stitched together) doubled-back rim of anything, especially sheet metal
ReplyDeleteThank you. New to me. Then EL & Lap need not be separate as shown by Col.
ReplyDeleteNew to me too. I didn't find it in Free Dictionary
DeleteWill correct it after I get back home
DeletePalle is not there in any of my dictionaries
DeleteI found it in Wiktionary now
Delete7 D - ELATION( RELATION - R) ( Unsure of Anno)
ReplyDeleteYou have given the anno!
ReplyDeleteYou only did not mention how you got 'Relation'- from M in law.
R from 3 R's- Reading, wRiting. aRithmetic
Thank you!
DeleteI don't understand 3 R's, pl elaborate
ReplyDeleteElaborated above- as pronounced R comes first in 2nd & 3rd. ('rithmetic)
Delete3 R's are used to indicate literacy and used commonly in CW's
Thanks🙏
DeleteOk what is the role of Mother-in-law here, how your 3 R's come
DeleteM in law perhaps is relation.
DeleteSarathi,
DeleteIt is not MY 3R's!! Arden gave 1 R (Writing) and I just said it is part of 3 R's''.
You are right Sathia.
DeleteOk
Delete8D typo in answer?
ReplyDeleteYes typo
Delete28A Any rationale for ‘Be without teacher’ instead of ‘Be with teacher’? Thanks

outside.
Without is a container indicator.
Be outside teacher.
Be (stay) without teacher is expected to mean teacher within 'Stay'- STA(TUTOR)Y
ReplyDeleteI always feel very satisfied after solving Arden's puzzles! Today, however, the clue for 14A: VAGRANT seemed too contrived. In 15D, palle was new to me but it was a fair clue.
ReplyDeleteThis is what I was able to get for Palle on googing-
ReplyDeleteThe balls forming the cognizance of the family of the Medici, six of them (five red and one white with a bearing upon it) being charged upon the shield, which frequently occurs in Florentine and other Italian works of art. The balls have reference to a game similar to tennis.
Surprisingly i knew Palle & got all except SMELT - which i missed.
ReplyDeleteStill finishing all but one of Arden - highly satisfying. 😊
Palle - used in metal sheeting shop drawings
