The cruel irony of being the setter of today's special is that there is no grid to solve, given that newspapers are on holiday. I am rummaging through the old newspaper pile to find some empty puzzles. Come to think of it, I suppose The Guardian is also not on holiday today.
Thanks, and I agree that this grid could be improved. Can you give examples of your least favourite clues? It'll be interesting ot think about how to make them more enjoyable for solvers.
You are correct, with very good annotations. After a previous puzzle of mine, there was discussion about whether OM is a prayer, or part of a prayer, or a mantra. Does it need to be revisited?
The two FELLOWS Vladimir and Ganesh were EQUALS of a KIND. Here they were - sitting in a POSH restaurant in Bombay eating PASTA. A fat LATVIAN woman passes by. Both the fellows are DELUDED. Full of ELATION Vladimir gets up and JIGS. Ganesh too. Did they behave like MANIACS? What happened next?
After a long time solved a special in THCC. Most enjoyable smooth puzzle economiser! Let's have more such clues please like ELATION. Literally ligts the mood.
The grid was too easy to enter. Some clues are straight out of 101 of cryptic solving. Perhaps setter could have made some clues tougher. Maybe one too many homophones( and the spoonerism), which were all good👍. Then there were some really nice clues like 23A UNFURLS(setter's disclaimer is clear), 13D PURSE among others.
Contrast(I don't mean to compare the regular with holiday serving) with recent Dr.X puzzles which were difficult to penetrate in spite of pleasing foreplay. Stopping there, because the puns and double entendres are umcalled for. Just thought of putting out a solver's analysis. 😎
