DeleteBoo boo by The Hindu.
ReplyDeleteToday's crossword is from INCOGNITO.
How TH gave credit to Arden in the on line version, but to Incognito in the print version?!
ReplyDeleteOh and I was congratulating myself for cracking Arden so fast.
DeleteI was wondering whether Arden's quota was increased!
DeletePrinted edition credits the setter Incognito.
ReplyDeleteMoonlander
ReplyDeleteMOON+LAND+ER
Vacantly gaze+ country+ queen
Well done
DeleteSuperb. One of the last to fall for me.
Delete...and it has the stamp of Incognito all over.
ReplyDeleteJust wondering how that stamp looks - what the size, shape, design are.
DeleteLike 1d. With incognito gaze vacantly would be moon. Arden took me to GE and many other variants which didn't fit and eventually come back to moon.
DeleteThose who have been regularly solving for years can easily identify
DeleteIncognito, Buzzer, Arden, xChequer,
Gridman.
Others may not be this easy. Say whether the crossie is from Dr.X or Afterdark.
Further comments welcome!
Say, a Moon lander, Tomahawk for a simple T, linking Oakland & Kodaikanal...
DeleteI could only say this much, probably felt more while solving.
By this time I think we can identify almost all setters by their cluing style. Dr. X would have a few puny DDs, AD will have no CDs etc
DeleteAlso the grids. All the setters have their own grids from which we can identify them:XChequer & Sunnet work with 1 type of grid only.
DeleteAD will have lots of additions,deletions- to which Raju may be allergic.
DeleteVasant is a specialist on grids.
DeleteNot a Specialist but the grid also (in addition to the clue writing) fascinates me.

Paddy, sometimes allergies can become addictions!
DeleteOtherwise, how do you explain the deletion/addition clue of Raju in the yesterday Sunday Special?
:-)
DeleteCol.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the link on 'Snake oil'. It was new to me.

ReplyDeleteMoonlander?
Pl. see anno by Suresh above @8.35.
DeleteKalsri, there is no point giving an answer without attempting to annotate it. Your annotation may not be correct but one should try
Delete7d I took as T clue. Is it not.
ReplyDeleteGood one. I didn't notice that
DeleteIt's a [T] clue
Delete27 Oakland Building houses top king in hill station (10) KODAIKANAL {OAKLAND}* over {A1}{K}
ReplyDeleteI got the answer from crossings but could not understand what A1 stands for ...
Top = A1
DeleteTop synonym a1. http://www.thesaurus.com/browse/a1
DeleteOh yes ... thanks Col Gopinath
DeleteMoon... listless behavior
ReplyDeleteLand... nation
Er... queen
Am I right?
Moon = To yearn or pine as if infatuated = Gaze
DeleteI love Incognito. It cannot be Arden even as I like him.
ReplyDeleteI must add, I am as yer uncomfortable with XChequer, Skulldugger and buzzer
ReplyDeleteBuzzer?!
ReplyDeleteThe Orator said that Jules Verne went under the sea, to the centre of the earth and around the world. Why, he even flew in a balloon. But he never spoke of a moonlander...
ReplyDeleteThis guy who spoke ad infinitum was bitten by the travel bug. Wanting to pep up his dampened spirits he took a trip to Kodaikanal on Hogmanay.
There he wanted to see the stalagmite caves visited by his movie idol.
As he crossed the turnpike he was told that the odds of being bitten by a scorpion was high. Better carry some snake oil.
A teacher walking close by imposed himself and said (a) snake oil is not a cure for scorpion bite and (2) Guna caves are not stalagmites.
This did not astonish the orator. He had already googled....
Nice travel around.

DeleteIncognito still remains Incognito in the online edition. Position as at 11.48AM
ReplyDeleteincognito at 1230
DeleteYes. But I think work is still going on back stage as grid is not allowing you to enter
DeleteIt looks fine now.
DeleteYou mean he still remains Arden?
ReplyDeleteBelated April Fool's prank, friends! :)
ReplyDeleteAreden is Incognito's pseudonym and my pseudo-pseudonym
OH! YOU TOO ARDEN!
Delete'Oru naal Arden'!! (Like oru naal raja)- thanks to TH.
DeleteTypical of Incognito to turn a boo boo into a prank😀😀
Delete;)
DeleteToday you got the SCORPION. The sting will follow...
A case of cog in the wheel? Hardened in cognito !
ReplyDelete😀😀
DeleteStrange that Incognito hasn't fooled us...his puzzle in 1Across yesterday was on Easter(or was it?)..
ReplyDeleteThe special prize..hmmm..
But times are such that you are spoilt for choices. Whether you do an Incognito in THC or an Oracle in 1Across. Of course you want to do both & more (perhaps a Balderdash in Sunday Special:-) )
ReplyDeleteMore the merrier!
