ReplyDeleteClue points to gurudwara!
DeleteOr is the def "without U holy place"!
I think you are right about the def.
Delete+1 Without U in holy place as definition
DeleteGurdwara is the correct spelling and not Gurudwara
DeleteIt depends. In South we pronounce it as ;Gurudwara' only- it is connected with Guru. In Hindi they always cut short the last syllable. It is Guru+ Dwara. They may even pronounce it as 'Grudwar'.
DeleteMy view is pure cryptic language.

ReplyDeleteThanks Colonel for the blog and to all the solvers who tried it. Apologies for the error in 14A. I had clued for GURUDWARA though the grid entry was GURDWARA. The latter is the correct spelling as pointed out by Colonel and it missed my checks as well. I had messaged the TH editor early in the morning although the online version is yet to be corrected.
ReplyDeleteWelcome back Vasantji. Nice to see you are solving grids again. Don't miss the challenging Alphabet jigsaw over at 1ACross if you have time.
Tomorrow's grid has a topical theme. I had fun setting it. Hope you all enjoy it.
The correct clue for 14A is
ReplyDeleteFight to stop guard working in holy place (8)
