ReplyDeleteI'd some doubts.
ReplyDelete24ac - Doubling means around?
26ac - shrinking means around? How do u get run & around?
16dn - bar is BAN. what is stops? Wp?
Can someone kindly explain.
I normally give up on Crescent.
ReplyDeleteExtremely happy to say I got all except SLAP BANG and NULLIFIER. Even YELLOW BRICK ROAD.
Tough level of cluing than what we normally get - but v v Happy to solve even 80%
Thanx
In 1 dn - Pots means lots of money?
ReplyDeletePots means lots- of anything. In this case, money.
Delete24A- Doubling to indicate 2 golds- yellow & OR
26A- Shrinking stuff is filling. Run from Hides (I think) Around is insertion indicator.
16D- Stops is again insertion/ containment indicator.
All reversal indicators have been off (as in weird very limited usage verbs)
Delete24a doubling is a nautical term to say sail around. It works as container imho. Here it's used as reversal for OR. Craven is yellow.
26a shrinking is also retiring/retreating. Spread-run<=over, hides container.
Thanx Prasad! Helps to understand the setters cluing style for future solves.
DeleteCraven is yellow I thought.
ReplyDeleteCraven evil is YELLOWBAD.
