Yes, no reversal...
DeleteStruggled with ororotund even with full fodder 😩
ReplyDeletePompous= Orotund. That is what the link also says. But extra 'or'?
DeleteChambers list both with the same meaning.
Delete7d "case" superflous. Misleading!
ReplyDeleteProbably 'Art case' is AT and side is R. But then what is the def.?
DeleteI don't think setter meant side to be side dish.
Def is indeed just "side" (commonly used for "side dish", but perhaps the usage is not as common outside the U.S., which I did not realize while setting).
DeleteYes, "case" is redundant, but not extraneous, and I'm not a stickler on such usage, especially if done sparingly and for helping the surface. The cryptic reading of "X in Y case" is "X is surrounded by Y," so it works fine imo (yes, "X in Y" *also* works).
I will update the post after theme words and Nina have been identified by solvers.
ReplyDelete"Khadi" also means Standing(up)

Delete17D- Is awesome=rocks?
ReplyDeleteYes
Delete"is awesome" = rocks, to be precise (just making sure the "is" was not a part of your question :-)).
DeleteIndian Whiskies seems to be the theme. I can identify two-Amrut and Rampur.
ReplyDelete18A: in my opinion it has to be run (for go) not turn; error in fodder.
ReplyDeleteSathia
"turn" = "go" as in a game. https://chambers.co.uk/search/?query=go&title=21st [.... a turn or spell • It's my go. ...]
DeleteThanks.

Thanks for blogging, Vasant, and thanks for comments and feedback to everyone! I'll post my notes shortly. But there is one more Indian whisky to be found in the grid (not particularly hidden...) in case anyone wants to look.
ReplyDeletePaul John?

DeleteYes!
DeleteHere are my notes for this crossword:
ReplyDelete**Notes**
The title, in Hindi, means "whole black gram" (a popular lentil). Khadi also means "upright" in Hindi, so the cryptic interpretation of the title is URAD <<, or DARU, which means liquor in Hindi. The entry WHISKY (11a) spells out the theme more specifically.
A couple of fine Indian whiskies can be seen as ninas in the grid: RAMPUR across the middle row, and AMRUT down the middle column. A third Indian whisky, PAUL JOHN, is formed by 14a and 19a.
SODA (4d) and NEAT (25d) are symmetrically located thematic entries.
**Personal notes**
War rages on in Ukraine, war looms in India (hope what's already transpired is the end of it), and my adopted country indulges in more buffoonery as well as comic-book villainy. If only humanity had begun evolution south of the Nile, where resources were plentiful, then, perhaps, like the bonobos, we'd have been altogether less inclined to tribal slaughter.
My son Kavi has made his call and will be joining the aviation program at San Jose State University this autumn. Am excited and happy for his next chapter.
Thank you Viresh for the notes. Best wishes to Kavi!
DeleteIt is sickening to see every other day, American President talking on Tariff War and bullying other countries. America used to be the benchmark for other nations to follow and unfortunately the present President is making a mockery of himself as well as the country.
DeleteMy Best wishes to your son on pursuing aviation programme.

War or no-war in any part of the world, but the human society seems to be going to the next (higher) level. This is because, of late, we see each organ of the Democracy reportedly foraying into the areas of the other, like judicial activism - both here and in the U.S. (questioning in the tariff issue, which is an executive/political decision), followed by the U.S. President condoning it, here the Presidential reference to the Hon'ble SC, etc. A healthy trend or what ?
DeleteBest wishes to your son.
Best Wishes for your son to pursue an excellent and interesting course.
ReplyDeleteGlad to seen your message about your son's update. Hearty congratulations.........
