      I think Arden's intent is 'some letters' as the hidden fodder for extracting omelette (something to eat).
      Is this a rare instance of a clue where the hidden fodder is not given directly but has to be obtained by a def (here, post)?
      Recently, while I was setting a future crossword I wrote a similar clue but scratched it as I thought hidden fodder is always given directly.
      Qn: Have yous seen such a clue in any UK crossword?
      Please note that I am only making observations. I am not criticising the clue itself. Will THC solvers like to see such 'hidden fodder disguised' clues?

      I can't recall what induced me to write such a clue but it happened. Only later I realised that it was not the usual kind of telescopic clue and rewrote it to stick to the accepted rule.

      I haven't come across such a clue. I dont think it was unfair as most of the solvers would have got it. The parsing would have bothered most. I also parsed as hidden inside some letters but obviously home letters is correct.

      I concur with Prasad's annotation. 'In' for home and 'letter' for post. Since your initial assumption is wrong, I can't comment on rest of your post CV.

      I think “home letter” for “in post” is the correct parsing since it’s a Standard term vis a vis “some letters”. However, this results in “in” doing double duty since “contents” by itself doesn’t work as a hidden indicator.

      On the second point, a telescopic clue where the fodder is not spelt out is somewhat like an indirect anagram and cannot be considered fair to solvers.

    An absorbing hour spent in deciphering. Glad to have got most of it, though with some help. Could not get Beluga.

      This grid replaces an old grid which I had used two or three times Vasant. The one I replaced had too many four letter words. I chose this because of the eleven letter lights, which none of my other grids have. So, it was more for variety, than anything else.

    The NEON lights are AGLEAM. Not a GRANDSLAM but a 20/20.
    But the team owner has made an ADROIT move. An entire REGIMENT can't get him.
    He remains NONPLUS ( not in VIETNAM).
    In a NIGHT club he is enjoying his OMLLETTE and VENISON making some OVERTURES.
    We may REMONSTRATE but his action NEGATES every effort.
