DOB:5th Aug. Age: Young enough to be away from death, if one counted age backwards.!
Though qualified as a Chemistry graduate , stumbled into insurance (Ugh-- Who said something else was the 'oldest profession?') and 'served' my clients in Bombay and in Kenya, retiring from there as a CEO and Director. A Bombayite still at heart and trying to put in my mark as a Coimbatorean, but not finding my feet digging in still. Spending all my current leisure time solving crosswords collected over a period of two decades- average output 20 -30 per day. Other available time is spent in reading and writing to newspapers, and whatever is left , with my soulmate Sapna. No one else around as two birds have flown the coop, one in Nagoya Japan- a boy, teaching English there and the younger one in Penn State in the US finishing her Phd in Philosophy.
Enjoy living by the moment and praying to the Almighty to give me all the time, healthy and mentally agile enough to do more and more crosswords, an undying passion which has earned me a place in the Limca Book. Trying repeatedly to get into the Guinness but they refuse on grounds of lack of comparable standards to be beaten.!!
David Jonathan Dobson
Originally from "God's own county" of Yorkshire. Famous for cricket, The Brontes and for Yorkshire Pudding! Now living in the flat lands of Eastern England with it's windmills and dykes, which is quite a change from the hills of my birth.
I also live in Kottayam, Kerala where we have a house, which we intend to retire to in a few years time. I try to spend as much time as possible each year in India and over the last couple of years it has been a 50/50 split.
The Hindu crossword is very much part of the ritual of my days in Kottayam. I like to start the day on the patio, with a coffee and the crossword. A gentle start to often busy days.
I went to school in Bradford, where I much preferred languages and the arts. I went on to Manchester University where I read French and Russian.
I worked for the British Diplomatic Services and have lived in Dubai, Italy, France, China and Argentina. My job took me to many other places and I have been very lucky to have travelled so much.
I have three children:
Maegan is 24 and is now studying Hindi at Delhi university. She got her MA in History from Oxford. Last year she worked for Tara books in Chennai, and is still working for them on a freelance basis.
Jacob is 17 and still at school in Spalding. His passion is physics and next year he will be applying to go to university. He is hoping to go to Oxford like his sister.
Theo is my baby, but at 15 and having already gained the dizzying heights of 6 foot 2 inches, I am not sure how long I can call him this. He wants to be a doctor, but has got a few years before he needs to make any decisions.
My wife June is also from Yorkshire and we have been together since our teenage years. She is now a supply teacher which gives her the freedom to work when she wants to and to escape to India when the fancy takes her.
A few things people don't know about me:
I have 3 nipples
I was a ballroom dancer (which is how I met my wife - we were dance partners for many years)
I've met the pope (John Paul) and Queen Elizabeth
I hate brussel sprouts.

Six days before Caesar's date to beware, The Eagles mention the year in Hotel California. Sir M. Venkata Subba Rao gave me the early lessons in life after which Swami Dayanand Saraswati's Anglo-vedic principles took hold - a daily pilgrimage to Lloyds road..A few good (boy, were they good!) years later high tailed out of IIT-M somehow snaring a degree along with some of the best buddies for my life! After meandering through L & T in Mumbai and TVS in Madras, the highlight of which was a bus trip from Bombay to Bangalore and then another bus from B'lore to Madras when I had had enough of Bombay, I landed in Cincinnati, OH for a good few years. Did everything in Cincinnati but study - got into theater groups, late night parties, charities, traveling, making more life long friends, running into my future wife who was then a undergrad and (no) thanks to me in part, still is in some ways and so on! Hoodwinked my committee into giving me a Ph.D. and moved to Texas, where I still am in Austin (the only place in Texas I can possibly live in, the rest is too much of a red state). Finally married a couple of years later after much back and forth (to put it mildly) with my dad, and have two lovely daughters - one who's a namesake of N. Rengaswamy sir's grand daughter and a younger one, who as the name suggests, is an earthy light that burns bright with good tidings. My older girl finally got a puppy - a Border collie - Schnotzie mix that is a smart, hyper dog. She's my daily running buddy now and keeps me from gaining more weight than I should..Enuff said about me..I'm still chugging through life and hope to arrive on the other side with as good a story to tell as some of the others on this page...

Dr Ramakrishna Easwaran
I am Dr.Ramakrishna Easwaran, known as RKE, a
neurosurgeon at Trichy. I am the Promoter Director and Chairman of
Neuro One Hospital, where I work. I am 59 years "young". My favorite
haunts for doing the crossword are the breakfast table, the car and the
operation theatre! Apart from Hindu, I also do Indian Express, Business
line and FT crossword. I believe that there is scientific evidence that
crosswords, puzzles, quizzes can help stave off age related dementia.
I
am also into Carnatic music and have released 2 volumes of songs (as
books and CD) I have written and composed (thankfully, sung and played
by real pros and not me). These songs are written in Tamil, Kannada,
Sanskrit and Manipravalam (a mixture of Tamil and Sanskrit). I also do
transcreation of classical Tamil poetry into English free verse. This
is apart from my 13-14 hour work days, 2-3 brain and spine operations
daily and neurosurgical academic writing.
My
wife Radha describes herself as a "crossword widow". She was once a
de-addiction counsellor but now is content playing the grandma to our
grand-daughter. My 2 daughters, both in IT, have settled in Hyderabad.
