Delete6d:Remembered the opening lines from T.S. Eliot's Wasteland:
ReplyDeleteApril is the cruellest month, breeding
Lilacs out of the dead land, mixing
Memory and desire, stirring
Dull roots with spring rain.
Good one.
DeleteFor a while I was struggling to fix " Last month". Is it Dec. or May?
....before I could separate last & month!!
Thanks for the lovely blog and nice choice of pics Vasant. Very poignant quote but it rings true. April was cruel in other ways this year, as we were caught between Bahrain and Chennai during an uncertain war,. We evacuated from here in March and then returned afer mid April as schools and offices resumed to in-person functioning. Glad that June has brought a cease fire plus a semblance of an agreement and hope it gets resolved soon.

Delete@Sowmya:Glad the hard times are over and back to normalcy.
DeleteThe whole of Wasteland is poignant, a bit abstruse but with lot of symbolism and allegories including harvest symbols and Upanishadas. Fittingly, the poem ends with a Clarion call for peace, "Shanti, shanti"
Struggled with Discontented lady meant remove contents of lady . I knew it was lychee but I learnt here not to put in the answer before getting the annotation.
ReplyDeleteYes, That is how one learnd!!
Delete'Discontented' is used here fairly frequently- for removing contents and leaving ends alone.
