DeleteThe word Hurst(Hirst) is listed differently in different Dictionaries.
According to Merrium webster, Hirst(it gave the variant spelling) there are many scottish meanings.
A barren, unproductive plot of ground., A sandbank in a river,.A great number or quantity.The part of a mill floor where the millstones turn in their framework.
Hurst is quite a common spelling.
According to Collins, the word Hurst means, wood, sand bank(British English).
